My website is fixed and updated (thank you, o fabulous code geek!).

Also, thank you to everyone who responded to my previous post. Every single comment helped my unspeakably foul mood. Y'all rock.

The Virtu will be out at the beginning of July. As a sort of experiment, I'm going to put the first four chapters on my website, one a month, between now and then.

So if you're interested, go read Chapter One.

July is too far away!

Oh, well. At least I can console myself that there'll be another chapter next month.

(can't...wait....)

Squeee!

You have improved my day vastly. Thank you.

And chapter 1 of The Virtu would still rock even if it was scribbled in crayon, but your website enhances it further. Lovely design.

Re Felix's mildly snarky comment about academic wizards and their specialties: I do enjoy when fantasy and sci-fi writers take potshots at academia. I started one of the David Lodge books that everyone raves about, and I found it over-obvious, sexist, and (worst of all) so dull I didn't see the point in finishing it.

But take The Dispossessed, in which academic power-mongering threatens anarchist utopia. Or Asimov's The Gods Themselves. Beats Lodge all hollow, if you ask me.

I really wanted to read it, but I'm screen res 800x600 with large fonts; I can only see one sentence at most in the frame, and somehow the site's completely disabling the scroll function on my touchpad. (So embarrassed.)

Try this (http://www.sarahmonette.com/virtu1-plain.html), instead.

And I'm sorry the site thwarts you.

No, seriously...thank you!!

I loved it! And even though you will be posting a new chapter each month over the next few months - July cannot come soon enough!

I think I'll keep myself occupied by re-reading Mélusine for the 9 millionth time!

I loved the first chapter. Very quickly brought me right back into the world of Felix and Mildmay. Thank you for the advance preview.
