I think I'll print that out and stick it up on my monitor -- because I've got the same complex. I don't have more than 5 chapters of any of my WIP's done because at about chapter 3 my inner-editor kicks in and I have to go back and fix this and this and especially that...
That's a tough one. I know it's absolute crap, and it makes me feel very nervous to know I've just pumped out 6K words that is almost all exposition and dialog. But at least it's out, I tell myself.
When you figure out how to get over it, tell me how.
BTW, I am reading Melusine right now. It has pizza sauce on the edges, crumbs between the pages. I took it into Wal-Mart in case we stopped there. I didn't notice my kids falling asleep all over me. I can't put it down (except to read LJ of course!). You deserve the Campbell.

Date: 2006-03-27 12:45 am (UTC)And, no, you don't ever really get over it. You just say to yourself--as you have--fine, it's crap. Write it anyway.
And then you fix it.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

Date: 2006-03-26 01:04 pm (UTC)It doesn't have to be perfect at all.
It just has to be right.
