I am, in fact, playing with LibraryThing.

It is a terribly shiny toy.

The only problem I'm having is in trying to get the search feature to cough up the correct edition of a given book (as, for example, oh, say, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) without having to get up, find the book, and enter the ISBN.

(There's a metric to measure my total dingbat geekiness by. I'm not quite geeky enough to include ISBN numbers in my own private catalogue, but I am geeky enough that I insist on making LibraryThing catalogue the CORRECT edition of a given book.)

I am currently quailing before the morass of results I'm going to get for The Book of Three.

Ai-yi-yi.

Ack, I had this problem too - but after you pick an ISBN - you can go to your library and click the cover - then click *social info* and there will be a list of *other* ISBN versions and you can change it. Worst case, for some SFBC editions I had - I could at least get the right cover... (under *social info* - one of the options is *change cover*)

Even though my Varley books came up on the correct ISBN, I think they use the cover of whatever is on Amazon at the time for that book.

I couldn't FIND an ISBN on my SFBC Guy Gavriel Kay Fionavar books though.

I couldn't figure it out from the LibraryThing website-- Does it allow you to save your catalog offline, too? It looks very tempting, but I wouldn't want anything that I couldn't backup myself and keep a copy of at home.

Yes, you can both import in bulk, and export everything to a tab-delimited text or CSV file. Handy, useful, and well designed!

it's under the tab marked "Joy" which gets you to the "extras" page; a Firefox extension, a dashboard widget for Macs, etc. and so on.
