truepenny: artist's rendering of Sidneyia inexpectans (books)

Word is that the John M. Ford Memorial Book Endowment is bringing in lots of money for the Friends of the Minneapolis Public Library to buy books with.

Both [livejournal.com profile] papersky (Jo Walton) and John Scalzi are running auctions, also.

I think this is awesomely neato-keen.

If, when the ARCs of The Mirador become extant, I were to put one* up for auction to benefit the JMFMBE, would anyone be interested in bidding? I mean, bidding would start at $10, so I'm not asking anyone to pledge their life savings right here and now. I'm just trying to figure out if it would be worthwhile doing.

Also, PLEASE NOTE, that does NOT mean, "Start bidding now." I'm not auctioning Mirador futures. (::brain goes to a scary dystopian economic place and comes back in a hurry::) I'm asking a hypothetical question. "Yes," "No," and "Maybe" are all acceptable answers--as are many other things. Dollar amounts are not.

Some of us are fond of neurotic pink circus poodles.

I'd bid. Neurotic pink circus poodles do it for me every time. (My aunt used to breed toy tangerine poodles. What chance did I ever have, to grow up gruff and butch and macho?)

I didn't think anyone would want mine either.

Yes, of course, as long as the bidding doesn't go up to four figures.

Well, yes, of course. Because then I'd know what happens next. Sooner than I would if I waited for the book to be released into the general population.

Definitely, yes, as long as I could do it from across the pond.

I can't imagine the Friends of the Minneapolis Public Library would mind that in the slightest.

Yes, definitely. A great idea.

I'd like to add that I'd love to live in a world where you could bid on book futures. Though I suppose pre-order at Amazon.com might quality, in a rather less exciting way.

Yes, definitely! And yay for raising money for the Minneapolis Public Library, which is a beautiful, book-ful place. :)

Sure

I'd bid, though I imagine the bidding would shoot past my limited budget pretty quickly. Good idea.

I definitely would-neurotic pink poodle optional...

I'd bid, in the early stages until my budget was hoplessly outstripped.

Yes, although I'm sure bidding would shoot past what this college student can afford.
