via [livejournal.com profile] matociquala. I rather like this meme, and want to see what happens.

IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?
So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...

ETA: I highly recommend [livejournal.com profile] cristalia's take, too

Opening Credits:
Shawn Colvin, "Another Long One"

Ouch, shuffle. Very ouch.

And it's gonna be another long one tonight
It's just me and my well-intentioned spite
I said someone did this to me
But no one did, there's no injustices
I just can't afford to be right no more

Waking Up:
Shriekback, "Reason with the Beast"

Considering that I live with four cats ...

Just have to reason with the beast

First Day At School:
David Bowie, "Kooks"

Oh god. Yeah.

And if you ever have to go to school
Remember how they messed up this old fool
Don't pick fights with the bullies or the cads
'Cos I'm not much cop at punching other people's Dads
And if the homework brings you down
Then we'll throw it on the fire
And take the car down town

Falling In Love:
David Bowie, "Cracked Actor"

Shuffle is cynical today.

Crack, baby, crack
Show me you're real

Fight Song:
Shriekback, "Shark Walk"

I'd actually love to see Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone fencing to this.

Here comes a madman, everybody hide
He do the shark walk

Breaking Up:
Collapsis, "Wonderland"

Wow. With the irony.

And then she whispered to me from below,
"I think I've fallen hard," fell in my hands

Prom:
Sinead O'Connor, "The Emperor's New Clothes"

Wild wargs would not have dragged me to my prom.

Everyone can see what's going on
They laugh 'cause they know they're untouchable
Not because what I said was wrong

Life is Good:
Dar Williams, "Another Mystery"

This IS one of the greatest music-makes-me-happy songs of all time.

Get off the catwalk,
I want you to talk,
To be the seer, instead of the seen
There is a flower,
A leaning tower,
And all of the wonders stand in between

Mental Breakdown:
David Bowie, "Big Brother"

Um. Well. SO NOT WRONG.

He'll build a glass asylum
With just a hint of mayhem

Driving:
Aimee Mann, "Susan"

I do in fact often listen to Aimee Mann while driving.

There must have been some kind of parade
We kissed for a while to see how it played
And pulled the pin on another grenade

Flashback:
Blink 182, "All the Small Things"

ETA: Clearly post hoc propter hoc is not wrong in this case, as Flashback leads to Getting Back Together. (It's that kind of song.) And Driving must be driving away from the bad relationship that got in the way.

Always
I know
You'll be
At my show
Watching
Waiting
Commiserating

Getting Back Together:
Shriekback, "Sticky Jazz"

Ooh, I must have got into Strictly Ballroom somehow.

Shiny as the stars we cannot find

Wedding:
Sheryl Crow, "Everyday Is A Winding Road"

Yeah, like that.

Jump in, let's go
Lay back, enjoy the show

Paying the Dues:
David Bowie, "Sweet Thing (Reprise)"

Oh, Shuffle. You really have it in for me, don't you?

If you want it, boys, get it here thing
'Cos hope, boys, is a cheap thing, cheap thing

The Night Before The War:
Vertical Horizon, "Everything You Want"

Shuffle has just explained to me why I find this song so creepy.

You howl and listen
Listen and wait for
The echoes of angels who won't return

Final Battle:
Eddie from Ohio, "The Three Fine Daughters of Farmer Brown"

Which I almost mistyped as "The Three Fine Daughters of Father Brown." I'll take Stories Chesterton Would Never Have Written for a thousand, Alex.

My great battle will be fought to ROCKIN' vocal harmony. I'm down with that.

Some may recall the singing of the sirens
Luring the sailors who wreck and drown
Some say they still hear the fighting and flirting
And the preaching of the daughters of Farmer Brown

Moment of Triumph:
Shriekback, "Achtung"

Okay, greatest 80s cyberpunk movie never made. Yes, please.

Stop me dead, love me lifeless,
Show me a black as bright as it is hard
Kiss me stupid, love me dead
Show me a black as bright as it is hard

Death Scene:
David Bowie, "Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family"

Must die in the insane asylum, then. (On Diamond Dogs, this track is paired with "Big Brother." See Mental Breakdown above.)

Funeral Song:
Luscious Jackson, "Ladyfingers"

The Dadaists are trying to get the giraffe into the bathroom even as I type this. But hey, there will be dancing at the wake. That's pretty good.

ETA: I figured it out. Clearly the funeral is held in the insane asylum.

I'm so tired of my guns and my vanity
I'd like to trade 'em in for some sanity

End Credits:
David Bowie, "Fashion"

Bitter, diamond-edged irony seems to be the name of the game. All righty then. That's not inappropriate.

There's a brand new talk, but it's not very clear
Oh bop
That people from good homes are talking this year
Oh bop, fashion
It's loud and tasteless and I've heard it before
Oh bop
You shout it while you're dancing on the dance floor
Oh bop, fashion
