Have I mentioned how clumsy I am?

Was woken from a sybaritic and self-indulgent midday nap by the doorbell. On my way to answer the door, I slammed my left little toe into something (dunno what, too bleary to register) hard enough that it's bleeding around the nail, and before I put the band-aid on, the toenail was showing definite signs of turning black. I don't think the toe's broken--it wiggles without any noticeable agony--but it hurts like hell and even more so when I get up. Toes are so damn vulnerable--sometimes I wish we'd evolved with hooves instead of feet (I still want my four fingers and opposable thumb per hand, though).

Very clumsy. That would be me.

The really sad thing is, I've done worse.

I can relate. I have been known, some days, to collapse on the floor and wail, "Why do I keep hurting myself!" It's somehow comforting to hear that I am not the only one.

Husband says I move too quickly. I think I just don't have a very good sense of my personal space. And my head is often somewhere three steps ahead of the rest of me.

I hope your toe is okay!

Well, I've bruised the toenail something righteous, but otherwise I think I'm fine.

The women in my family are just clumsy. In my own personal case, I think the innate lack of coordination is compounded by lousy peripheral vision and no sense of spatiality--where things are in relation to each other, including myself. Mostly I just say ow! a lot and keep going.

Thanks for commiserating! It helps with the bruised dignity, if not with the bruised toenail, to know that I'm not alone. *g*

I once did that to a toe, only worse because I bent the nail right back, when sleepwalking. I think that probably qualifies as the worst way to wake up -- half way across the living room with an agonising pain in your toe.

So sympathy from this corner.

Ooh! Ow! Ow ow ow! At least I knew what was going on, even if I had to work out by Holmesian reasoning after the fact what it was I'd slammed into (door-frame).

Memo to self: do NOT add sleepwalking to your bag of tricks.

My comisserations too. I've broken three toes at seperate times, and the first one was done storming out of a room in an argument with my parents. I kicked my foot on the doorjamb. They didn't believe me until it didn't go away the next day, and they *still* laughed. So am I now, thinking about it.

I don't think I'd choose hooves - I like my balance - but I certainly wouldn't mind less vulnerable toes. Owww.
