I didn't realize you were the author of these books; I'm so excited there's a third. (I'm friending you so I don't loose track of updates, in case you're wondering who I am).
Love that Mehitabel is a pov chara. Am glad that Thamuris is still about, and have a horrible sinking worry about Gideon. I like Gideon. All kinds of interesting ways for things to go.
More thaumaturgic architechture, yum. I really, really, really like the stars. Why do I suspect that is going to be Extremely Important?
And now, of course, I want the whole entire book to devour in one go, to emerge sleep-deprived and dizzy with immersion in that other world.
I could go through that chapter again and again and I bet I'd still find something new in it even after reading it a couple of times. And now I can't wait for the next installment, no scratch that, I can't wait for the book! Time can't go fast enough.
Happy! O' I'm so happy! Great first Chapter! I just love the fact that now there are three voices to listen to. And the Kloidhanikos, I'm just too fascinated by that garden. Thank you!
Mmmmmmmmm :) Nice to have a teaser. Only problem is,makes me want more. Sigh, and how cruel is it to have three voices to keep track of now, not just two......? Very nice though, and Felix makes me want to cry. Mildmay is messed up, but Felix is a basketcase. Poor thing. I feel bad for Gideon too. These boys just can't catch a break. . .
Mehitabel has a POV? CRAZED. And, uhm, wow. The fact that this book comes out the day before my birthday is fantastic. There's no way that birthday can go poorly now. ^.~ (Unless you kill my favorite character, as seems to tragically happen whenever it can manage it. Elizabeth Haydon's done it, Tamora Pierce's done it, Ellen Kushner's done it, Brandon Sanderson's done it, JK Rowling's done it, and today I discovered Kim Harrison's done it, too! So depressing.) But, uh, I greatly enjoyed this chapter. Quite a lot. Mildmay has a ridiculous amount of my love.
But... I believe there may be a typo... in the plaintext version it's seventh paragraph... Felix says "Is an affront to seven hundred years of aesthetic philosophy". Should it be "It's"?
Yay, Monday is much less crappy now! I wish you could just stick the whole book up there (I swear I would still buy a copy:).
I had a question for you- if I were to preorder this from Amazon or somewhere, would it actually help you in anyway? Do you get points to redeem for valuable prizes if lots of people will provide a valid credit card number that says they want one well in advance?
Oh, lovely. Mehitabel's voice is just as outstanding as Mildmay's and Felix's. There's another chapter going up next month right? I can't wait till August. These installments are great but they just leave me craving more more MORE. Your series is swiftly rising up the ranks of my favourite fantasy books.
Hm, what's my favorite part of your writing? Probably that your main characters' internal worlds look as scarred up as their physical bodies. Minefields, dark dreams, psychosis, all mitigated by levity and their attempts to live life as sanely as they can...
And of course, there are those brief shining moments of gay incestuous desire. Dead tree symbolism! Make those leaves grow, Felix! You know how!
=) Anyway. Enjoyed it. Also enjoyed Girl POV in your new chapter. As a slash writer, I always forget that women have voices too, and this was a good reminder.
My adoration of your writing knows no bounds. This is a wonderful, tantalising glimpse of the next book. Thank you so much. Mehitabel is another unique voice, briming with life and very interesting possibilities - and that must be so difficult to do with the boys demanding to tell their stories so powerfully. As one of the reviewers you linked to said, these books are THE books for me. Cheers.
