Part One of Summerdown: 52,530 words (There need to be more words somewhere in the middle of Part One, but I haven't figured out what they are yet.)

Part Two had better come through on its promise to be complicated and sprawly and full of things like feminism and kinky sex and trains and politics and historiography and an adult education movement and ethically questionable magic, because I've got 125,000 words that need to come from somewhere.

Am I panicking about my August 1st deadline? Let's all pretend you didn't ask that question.

Those words *will* come from somewhere... You found them for the other books, so the Law of Averages (or something) says you will do so again.

I just have to tell you, too, that I bought MELUSINE after reading about your work on this journal - had to track it down in Forbidden Planet here in London. It was wonderful to see it there on the shelf and not have to do the whole Amazon-thing. I pushed aside my book of Kelly Link short stories and have begun reading immediately. Oh, it's just beautiful; your words are inspiring me to reach further with my own writing. I'm only 30 pages in and already love Mildmay! I know terrible things are bound to happen to both him and Felix, but I hope they're not *too* terrible...

Surely the Cool Stuff is like cats, and the more you coo at it and wiggle your fingers the more likely it is to hunker down under the bed, right in the middle where you can't reach it. (Yes, I did chase down cats to visit the vet yesterday--even the elderly one with Issues.)
Go play the piano or something. That'll make it pout and come demand attention.

Oh, look. There are my buttons. They have been pressed.

Trains?! Oboy! And since I seem to recall Gideon and Mildmay having a discussion involving boilers, perhaps even steam trains??

Of whatever sort, if the boys are riding one, it probably won't be on a Tourist Excursion Day Pass.... Looking forward mightily!

Sympathy but no help

Oh I do wish you the best of luck and have loads of sympathy, empathy even. No doubt the words will come, but will they come fast enough? Aye, that's where the terror sets in. However, I do notice that you have a wonderful panel lineup for Wiscon so, perhaps if you start a few good arguments you can spin that energy into a golden thread of words. Other than just general good will and cheerleading, that's all I can offer. My own solution to productivity problems has always been to blow something up and start a fight scene but I doubt that solution is a good one for you.
