More accurately, of course, I am here.

75,820 words of Summerdown written. 99,180 words to go. 62 days to write them in. I need 1,600 words a day now, instead of 1,500.

I do not, however, regret Wiscon. Nor will I regret going bookgeeking with [livejournal.com profile] brisingamen and [livejournal.com profile] peake tomorrow. This (the before, during, and aftermath of Wiscon) is the one chance I have most years to talk f2f with a number of friends I love, and I would not swap it for the world.

I also need to check the page proofs of "Three Letters" for So Fey, and write an introduction for The Bone Key (600 words, give or take, of which I have 515 with which I am not satisfied). Oh, and an acceptance speech, so that in the unlikely event I win the Campbell, [livejournal.com profile] marykaykare will not be forced to adlib.

As [livejournal.com profile] matociquala reminds us, today is the 414th anniversary of Christopher Marlowe's death.

Next time, Kit, pay for the damn fish, okay?

I crashed this morning for a 2+ hour nap. And I'm still tired.

I had an excellent Wiscon and came home with a huge stack of books.

Berman, Judith. Bear Daughter.
Blank, Hanne. Virgin (signed).
Conan Doyle, Adrian, and John Dickson Carr. The Exploits of Sherlock Holmes.
Duncan, Hal. Vellum (the British edition without the punctuation dumbed down for Americans, purchased signed).
Elliot, Kate. The Spirit Gate (also purchased signed).
Emshwiller, Carol. The Secret City (signed).
Gaiman, Neil. Fragile Things.
Jones, Diana Wynne. The Pinhoe Egg.
Klages, Ellen. Portable Childhoods (signed).
Okorafor-Mbachu, Nnedi. Zahrah the Windseeker (signed).
Watts, Peter. Blindsight.
Williams, Liz. Snake Agent.

Also my contributor's copies of Say ... What's the Combination?, Best New Romantic Fantasy, and the Fantasy sampler.

I did not take notes at my panels, nor at the one panel I managed to get to that I wasn't on, so the probability of a useful con-report out of me is slim to none. People were smart; I may have been one of them.

Break's over. Back on your heads.

"Next time, Kit, pay for the damn fish, okay?"

That's an icon if ever I saw one.

I loved getting to talk to you, so I am selfishly glad you came.

book...loot....

I didn't buy very much this year. Partly because I haven't finished reading everything from last year.

Snake Agent is *really* good. And dang it! I just bought both Vellum and Ink. If i'd known the US editions were effed up I'd have bought the UK editions in Montreal. How badly did they get messed with, do you know?

I crashed this afternoon for a 2+ hr nap, as well. now I'm propped up on the couch with pillows in hopes that if my head is vertical my brain will behave. *grimace* this morning at preschool camp the kids were gleefully stomping and banging instruments (as, indeed, we direct them to do every day), and I got through it by running a countdown. but Wiscon was totally worth it!

it was great to meet you, and spend time with you all! ^_^ I've been hoping to go to World Fantasy this fall, but the combination of a. rustling up the money and b. finding a place to stay before the whole town sells out makes it a bit daunting.

Mr. Duncan does not believe in quotation marks.

Which, okay, not a big deal, but I find it really changes the way a book feels in my head.

I am entirely confident you can put out not just an average of 1600 words a day, but 1600 good words.

Give [livejournal.com profile] brisingamen and [livejournal.com profile] peake my best--I am looking forward to her account of Penzey's.

And I'm delighted that you came, and for the same reasons. It was Nifty.

I read Portable Childhoods before, during, and after Wiscon, finishing it on the plane home. First I liked the fish story best. Then I liked the taste of summer one best. And I ended up liking the title story the very best. I laughed out loud twice while reading that one, making the guy in the middle seat try to inch away from me. The collection as a whole was immensely cheering as I have a lack of plot problem myself.

I brought home a huge stack of stuff I'm eager to read, but waiting for me at home were my copies of New Amsterdam and Water Magic. I started the latter today. It does not suffer from lack of plot.

Oh, hooray! Fragile Things and The Exploits of Sherlock Holmes. Two I hope to be after soon, myself. I hope they're amazing.

I have UK copies of Hogfather and The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett, and in those books the single quote and double quote rules seemed to be reversed. Is that a common thing in UK books?

You might want to watch your journal carefully for a bit. Since your fiction does include a bit of healthy brother-cest, even though you don't have it in your interests, be on the lookout for the Great Strikethrough.

If you aren't aware, check out the comm whydoesljcensor or any of the blazing mass of links on any fandom page. Six Apart's been rash-deleting journals with incest listed as an interest, among other things. Heads up!

Yes, that's standard in the UK.
