truepenny: artist's rendering of Sidneyia inexpectans (writing: david bowie-summerdown)

I just electronically delivered the manuscript* to my editor. It's more a raw draft than a rough draft, but it is a draft.

In a moment, when the panicky adrenaline rush has died down, I'm going to get up and check the mail.

Then, in the immortal words of M. Keaton, I want a sammich and a nap.

*Ace has decided they don't like Summerdown as a title, so currently the book is nameless.

::applauds wildly::

I think a sandwich, a nap, and dessert and/or alcohol are in order.

Imagine the temporary absence of guilt.

Yay for submitting manuscript!

There's always that "Oh crap, no, I take it back!" feeling the moment after you hit send.

Last time I did this, I had nightmares that I'd accidentally inserted a large chunk of fanfic into the electronic manuscript....

That's fantastic! Congrats! I was so disapointed that I couldn't pick up The Mirador today. I'll try again tomorrow...and the day after that...until I get my hands on it. Then I'll stay up all night reading it. I can't wait! Enjoy your nap! It's a nap well deserved!

Immortal words indeed

Congratulations on hacking through another jungle (aka: finishing a draft).

I would have you know that, due to the promptings of a Bear and a Mole, the ending of "Calamity's Child" is, to quote: Ivan shrugged. "Bad guys are all dead. We lived. Don't know about the rest of you but I'm going to have a sammich and take a nap."

At the insistence of my chief editor/wife, it was altered to "have a sandwich and get some sleep." but I've done my best to actually end a book with those lines--just because Bear said I couldn't do it. Now we just have to see if it can get past a publisher.

Unrelated: Did the book arrive intact?

Ace has always been goofy about titles, the creatures.

Congratulations. I've been following your struggle with sympathetic amusement.

Re. Summerdown... I have to say Noooooooooooo. I love this as a title. It's a perfect match for the other books. It says autumn to me, it speaks of endings, of winding down, drifting to a close - well, pretty much it tells me this is the end of this story.

Summerdown is so different from the usual run of the mill title that graces most fantasy novels. It's a unique word, a pretty, visual, effective word. Can we start a petition to convince the publisher it needs to be called Summerdown?

Publishers can be twats at times.

Regards,
Suz.

Yes, I'd be for it! A petition to keep that title that is. Exactly, 'Summerdown' is a perfect title. How would one go about it, to bring such a petition in existence?

But it's a lovely title!

Congratulations!! Oh, I can't wait untill I'll be able to order The Mirador from my bookstore...How long do you think it will take Ace and yourself to proofread your newly finished manuscript until publishing?

Congratulations!

(I have no idea what _Summerdown_ refers to, so I don't have an opinion on it as a title. I'm a little surprised that on book 4/4 the title is an issue, but what do I know about publishing?)
