You know, I think it's going to be the 17th century lit-not-involving-John-Milton course mentioned previously (http://truepenny.livejournal.com/536541.html).But it would apply equally to the other....
Yay! 16th and 17th literature ROCK! If the Powere That Be actually knew anything about the subject it would surely be banned.
Please, please post all the primary and secondary sources you'll be using. I am so envious of your students. Should you post any of your lectures, of course, I (and many others of your readers, I'm sure) would faint with joy.
I just took a humanities course in the spring titled "Sex, Crime and Madness in the 19th Century." There was no danger of anyone falling asleep during that class. I hope you get a good group of students.
Sounds to us from the descriptors given that SM could almost be planning to teach a course on the four novels in her 'Labyrinth' series. Her department _did_ say that she could teach anything that she wanted! Perri & Richard.
My disclaimer at the beginning of class each semester ran something like: "This is an art history class. It's all about images and their context. There will be pictures of naked people. You will be required to write about them. There will be sculptures of naked people. You will be required to stand right next to these sculptures. There will be religious art. At least some of this religious art is guaranteed to have been made in the service of a religion to which you do not subscribe. Some of the gods misbehave rather dramatically. If any of this is a serious problem for you, then please find some other elective to take."

That's just a hint, of course...

Date: 2007-09-01 05:06 am (UTC)I wanna join your course. High-school English courses honestly suck, in my opinion. All too froofie. But yours sounds very non-froofie.
