Today I told my editor I think I need another six months to finish Corambis. This means that the book will not be published in 2008. I am at peace with this. Or I will be, if the book I have in six months is at least as good as Mélusine, The Virtu, and The Mirador--i.e., worth the wait for all y'all.

I just don't think I can get it done faster and have it be something I'm proud of. And I've worked so long and so hard on these books that I'm not willing to compromise on second-best.

I want to stick the dismount, thank you.

Good on you. That must have been at least a little difficult, but I'm glad you were able to communicate that sort of thing to the person you're working with.

Here's to increased auctorial sanity!

I for one don't mind waiting... gives me more time to reread!

Good on you for taking care of yourself, and the book.

snagged a bit.

You should be able to take what you need for the writing. That's a right thing. Speaking just as a reader, that's the story I'd want to read.

Speaking strictly as a selfish reader, I prefer you stick the dismount. :)

I'd like to say thank you, because I personally would rather wait for something that makes you proud... and I am absolutely willing to let you as the author make the judgement on whether or not your book is done. Good for you, for going with your instincts on this. I hope it takes a lot of stress off you, too.

In five years time I won't care whether the book came out in 2008 or 2009, or even 2010, but I will care how good it is. Please stick with quality rather than speed.

I am always willing to wait.
And am awful at asking for more time.

So, good on you. And I look forward to the book that makes you proud.

I'm sorry you had to delay it, but glad that you're getting the time you want and need to make the book something you're satisfied with.

I heartily agree with this. The true story, the one you want to write, is there, and I'll happily wait for it. You probably want to be done with it, at least a bit, but I'm glad that you want it done well more.

Faithful readers will manage--at least, this one will.

AFter all, not only do I want this to be a good one, I want you in shape to go on the the books that will come after this one.

Well, I for one will happily read it whenever it's available and whatever it's called. And will try not to pester you too much in the meantime. *g* Good for you for figuring out what you need to do and for making it happen!

As a huge fan of the first 3, I'd rather wait for a great 4th than have an okay 4th quickly.

It's good to know your limitations and also to insist on taking the time you need.

We're relieved...we were more than a bit anxious by the small amount of time you had been given to do what sounded like a major, major revision. We admire you for speaking up and taking the time that you think you need to do the thing right.

It makes me sad to have to wait longer for the next book...but on the bright side, it means the series won't be over so quickly! You've already written three wonderful novels, and I have faith that you know how best to write the fourth.

Being true to the book you want can only be a positive thing. Good on you for devoting so much time and energy into the story. Felix, Midlmay and yourself do not deserve second-best. Good luck, Sarah!
