I'm still not really here, but I did write my Storytellers Unplugged column for this month.*

(Also, since I didn't post the link last month, here's February's column.)

*The other wetware hack that, for some bizarre reason, really worked towards the end of Operation Thunderdome was putting Cry Cry Cry's cover of "Cold Missouri Waters" on repeat. For, like, hours.**

**Those of you who may now be concerned about [livejournal.com profile] heresluck's sanity will be relieved to know I only did that while she was out of the house.

The task thing is very similar to what I've been doing with the first revision of What We Did to Save the Kingdom, when I'm steady enough to do the revision at all. So then it's, "I got three things done today! Well, four, but one was small," which is not only better for me than, "I wrote x words today," but also more sensible on something like a revision, when word count can be deceptive.

Pavlovian self-training. Hear music, think of book. I've been doing that since the first novel I completed, though in that case it happened by accident (I kept listening to the song 'cause I'd just fallen in love with it), and after that I did it on purpose. These days, to preserve my sanity, I've moved to a playlist model rather than a single-song one, but iTunes tells me that I listened to Enigma's "The Eyes of Truth" 793 times while writing and revising Warrior and Witch.

And this, folks, is why my husband and I have separate offices at home.

That's the only way I write papers!

Such a good song. I can't work on anything while playing music, so I just sit and stare at the speakers until the song is over, and then get back to whatever I'm meant to be doing, so this continual repeat idea is alien to me, but what a good choice.
