So irvingplace took photos of Wiscon 32, including a number which document the Spider Women of Queso Grande ([livejournal.com profile] matociquala, [livejournal.com profile] stillsostrange, [livejournal.com profile] cristalia, and me) invading the Tiptree auction on Saturday night and kidnapping the auctioneer ([livejournal.com profile] klages).

I believe this is me right after defeating Space Babe in hand-to-hand combat. Notice the demoness gleaming from my eyes (which match, as Bear pointed out, my corset. Also my lipstick.).

This is a marvelous picture of Bear.

As is this record of her "No shit there I was" face.

Space Babe triumphs.

We mourn our fallen leader.

The Spider Women (and the demoness) are skeptical but amused.

The Spider Women of Queso Grande perform a happy dance in proxy for Sharyn November.

Although not perfectly in focus, this may be my favorite picture of Bear's back-up singers.

I regret that there are no pictures of us presenting [livejournal.com profile] klages with the Cheesehead of Peace and Feminist Solidarity, but now I'm just being greedy.

And, unrelated to Spider Women, this is an excellent shot of [livejournal.com profile] elisem explaining how the Haiku Earring thing works.

It's easy to get good photos with such great subject matter. Y'all were a hoot. I only wish I could have had better lighting, but them's the breaks.

It appears you all had a wonderful time. Love all the grins and bright eyes. And you look stunning in your matching reds.

going to DuckCon this weekend, there's a great band playing 1pm on Sunday. Yes, they're friends, but they're STILL a good band. Riverfolk- check 'em out!

Like I told Bear, the Spider Women of Queso Grande were definitely my favorite part of a wonderful Con. Well, that and the delicious lunch I had with one of my favorite authors. ^.^

Random question: is "no shit there I was" a quote from something, or just a phrase that some meme-virus has spread across the world of SF&F?

I first heard it as a Steve Brust-ism.

FWIW.

Right. The opening lines of Dragon.

Thanks!!

If I recall correctly, the version we all had back then went like this:

You know the difference between a fairy tale and a war story, right? A fairy tale starts out, "Once upon a time..." and a war story starts out, "No shit, there I was...." So, no shit, there I was....

It works even better if your audience is well-practiced enough to join in on the quoted bits.

Ahhhh. This explains much. The copy on my shelf, regretfully, just starts in proper war story fashion.

Context much appreciated!

Well, it's pretty much an oral tradition. Steven was just referring to it.

There's also the thing we got from him, which I think he got from somebody else, but anyway, it came up when we were all gaming. Mike (John M. Ford) was gamesmaster, and he said to the party, "OK, what are you each doing?" And Steve said immediately and quite briskly, "I am ready to ride at a moment's notice, actively attempting not to be surprised."

Which also became a quote we all did in chorus.

You know, I think I would give a couple of my less essential body parts to have been a part of that gaming group.

I bet I can make it much worse. ;-)

In that group, along with Mike as gamesmaster and Steven K. Zoltan Brust Fabled In Story And Song as player, were Kara Dalkey and a number of other enjoyable players, and Pamela Dean made the munchies. I don't think Joel Rosenberg sat in, but his wife Felicia did.

Lively bunch.

Worse indeed. See, this is why I have to get published somewhere outside of campus and the Internet- so I can travel in these Hallowed Social Circles, XD.

Alternately, I suppose I could just spend a lot more time at Cons, offering to buy various and sundry writers a drink.
