Q: Will Mildmay ever catch a break? :D

A: ... Define "break." *g*

Q: Which came first when you were creating the Mélusinian world: language, character, or place?

A: Character. Specifically Felix. Place got extrapolated from "I have this person. What kind of world would he have to live in to be who he is?" The languages are just the result of my being in love with my own cleverness. Or if you meant the prose style(s), for me that's part of character--although the process of bringing the two into alignment can be kind of bumpy.

Q: When will Mildmay be cured of his fictional character status so that I can run off and have a torrid affair with him? ;)

A: This problem, I cannot help you with.

Q: What is your favorite color?

A: Amber.

Q: Would you rather have fame without fortune or avoid false dichotomies?

A: Binary thinking is a snare and a delusion.

Q: I've noticed that you say that the Lower City clock counts hours from sunset and sunrise: do they have set 'official' sunrise and sunset times or is Mélusine close to the equator?

A: It's close enough to the equator that 6 AM/6 PM is a good solid compromise.

Q: I truly have always wondered how you got into this. And by this, I suppose I mean writing gay men, although in fact, writing in general.

A: I read Swordspoint when I was fifteen or so.

That isn't quite an answer to both halves of the question, since I was already writing stories when I was fifteen, but Ellen's book taught me a tremendous amount about how I wanted to write stories. I also think it was the first book I ever read with a gay-or-bisexual protagonist, so there's a whole 'nother set of windows onto the world it opened for me.

Hi! Just wanted to drop in and say that I just finished the Dexterity episode of Shadow Unit and I really loved it! There was something Brady said that really reminded me of Mildmay...something about Reyes and poker. It's interesting, when you've read at least two of the authors on SU in other media, to see how their style affects the story. I could see your little nudge of the homosexuality issue in there, with Chaz and Dice, whereas EBear's prose style in Knock on Coffins was just screaming in my face.
Hah, anyway. Yes. That was totally coherent. In conclusion, you guys rock.

:dies laughing:

I've been wondering that, by the by. Although more along the lines of "When will Felix come shopping with me?"

I don't think you'd want him to. You'd be stuck there for hours and hours as he'd try on clothes. "Does this look good?" "How about this?" I'd want to KILL him. You'd get no time for yourself.

But dude, it'd be worth it. I LOVE shopping with gay men.

I think mostly the problem would be Felix... being Felix. With everyone in sight.

Be warned, the minute you try on a piece of costume jewelry, Felix is going to find a fiendishly clever way to cut you an your lack of taste down to size.

As for Mildmay, oh he is so lucky he is fictional because he wouldn't know what to do with all the people who have suddenly decided his poor scarred self is hot.

:laughs: Poor Mildmay. You're right, of course. He'd be shocked and trying to become part of the scenery.

I think it might be for the best that there's currently no fix for Mildmay's fictional status. There'd be a whole lotta women fighting over him. All that attention would distress him something fierce and probably piss Felix off. O_O
