I just got a contributor's copy of The New Weird, translated into Romanian. I had to go look at the publisher's website (Millennium Press) to figure out what language it was.

Apparently, the deal is, I will be translated first into languages I can't even parse, much less read. (Czech, Romanian, Chinese.)

I'm completely geeked.

Look at the bright side - as a Romanian translator, I can tell you if the translation is good? (And I am a pretty severe critic of my fellow translators.)

For some reason, Romanian is one of the languages I regard as totally cool - possibly to do with it being, against all the odds, a Romance language.

So indulge me, please: what is the Romanian for The New Weird?

"New Weird."

They left the title in English.

Heh. Some of us natives like to think our language is closer to Latin than Italian, you know.

The title would translate as "Noul straniu". Though it sounds very... well, pardon the pun, but weird. Which explains why they kept the original title; a moment of genius, that.
