1. I am now on Facebook. Adjust your home viewing stations accordingly. [ETA a further clarification: I'm this Sarah Monette.] [ETA: On LiveJournal, I will not friend you unless I know I can keep up with your journal (which is why my list of LJ Friends is so damn short, because bitter experience has taught me that 30 is about the upper limit); on Facebook, there is no such constraint. So feel free to friend me if you want to.]

2. I feel like leftover creamed death on toast today. Magic 8-Ball says work ain't happening.

3. There is also a Doctrine of Labyrinths group on Facebook. I offer this information purely as a public service.

4. The cover art for Corambis is up on Amazon.

5. Did I mention the part about leftover creamed death on toast?

That's some cover. I suspect that you will get a whole new readership from it. ;)

Actually, I suspect it will have exactly the same response pattern as Mélusine:

1. women who don't mind being perceived as romance readers will love it.
2. women who object to being perceived as romance readers will despise it.
3. gay men will love it.
4. straight men will not read the book because of it.

I would expect that a few more kinksters will be interested. Not that you weren't already a big hit with the queer BDSM community...

That explains a lot about all the other books Amazon suggested to me.

Hey, now--I am NOT much of a romance reader, but I love the series. There's a lot more to it than any romances I've ever heard of. And my mostly-straight partner IS going to read it at some point. He doesn't have homophobia to deal with, though.

Pretty cover! I will add it to the Good Reads listings for Corambis posthaste.

That wasn't a breakdown of reactions to the series. Just to the cover of Mélusine. And of course it's not universal--just based on what members of various groups have said to me.

Woah, almost-naked Felix. (I assume that's Felix.) Not that he wasn't shirtless on Melusine's cover, but this, with the chains and the chest . . . wow. (c:

Nope, that's the new narrator, Kay.

But, yes, the half-naked men are distinctly a theme.

ehm I wanted to ask, if I can actually use the covers of your books for the groups picture? I thought about doing it, when I started the group, but I'm not sure if that is big copyright infringment and I didn't want to get kicked off facebook/sued etc.
If not the cover, perhaps you can tell me another picture I could use? I don't like leaving it so image-less, so that would be fantastic

I'm actually not the person to ask, because the cover art does not belong to me. I asked my editor if it would be okay for me to use cover art as icons, and she said yes.

But the copyright holder is the artist, Judy York (http://www.judyyork.com/index.htm) (and go take a look at the big versions of the art for Mélusine and The Virtu, because there are cool details around the edges that got cropped for the covers--which I didn't know about until like one minute ago). She's the person to ask--and really, I can't imagine that she'd mind as long as proper credit is given (as I do in my icon keywords).

I've always loved the cover of The Virtu, but now I wish they'd used the full version, because it's even better. It gives a better sense of just how high and precarious Mildmay's position is.

Sorry 'bout the creamed death. Feel better!
And trying not to have Penguin USA and booksense.com don't have the cover art envy...

Yay preorder! (It's not the edgy romance novel cover vibe I mind. It's that the light is a kind of putrid yellow-green. Which may be accurate, but will mean I will take the cover off when I'm reading.)

On the other hand, it renders the question of skin color nicely moot.

Awesome cover art :D

Sorry about the creamed death-that was me yesterday. I had to sludge through work with a migraine that felt like a crazy midget dwarf with a rusty pick axe was pounding on my skull -_- plus I was and am just getting over a nasty cold, so yeah...been there.

Whiskey helps. Mostly O.o

Facebook....hmmm (is always skittish towards new communities)Image

Hi Sarah, I am new here to your LJ. Loved Melusine and The Virtu. Was turned on to your writing by a friend of mine. I love the angst of your stories and the way you bring your characters to life. I have had passionate discussions over Felix and Mildmay. I often feel sorry for Mildmay. And at times, is it wrong of me that I do want Felix and Mildmay to "get it on"! *blushes*

I have The Mirador in my possession and marked it to read soon. (It was a b-day gift).

Corambis will be on my Christmas list. :)

I do like your cover artwork of these books.

Feel better, so much is going around right now.

Hooray, Corambis! I'm excited!

Do you happen to know whether it actually does any good to click the link on Amazon that requests that the book be published in Kindle format?

(Also, I thought you might be amused (or maybe weirded out? or something) to hear that your dissertation advisor recommended your dissertation to me once: one of my chapters is on ghost pamphlets.)

I don't know how you do it or what inspires you but all the covers for each book are simply amazing!!

And Corambis is no exception! I literally stopped breathing for a moment and now I cannot wait until the book comes out....two days before my birthday no less!!!

I thought the Corambis cover art had to be the new guy. Even with the peculiar lighting, the hair just didn't look red....

BTW--I am not a reader of romance and have never had a burning desire to be taken for one. However, the cover art of Melusine never bothered me a bit. It always signaled "fantasy book!" to me, never "romance novel." Maybe because Felix was turned away from the camera, as it were. I'm not sure.

I think the cover to Melusine is deceiving! I had picked up the Virtu first because of that cover. Loved the back cover blurb and combined with the cover, I bought it. I love that picture of Mildmay. I picked up Melusine after reading like 2 pages of Virtu and realising no way was this book stand alone. So when I saw Melusine I was like, wah? LOL. See, my experience is that that people who try to write fantasy romance or romantic fantasy really don't do a good job. But the first pages of Virtu and the back blurbs clearly point out that the books are fantasy. So I took the risk. But the cover, if you a fantasy reader, really could throw you off. :) The cover to the new book I think is fine. It does not scream fantasy romance. LOL.
