Ditto'ng this -- there've been presidential elections where I'd've been ecstatic if I had McCain to vote for. Just, not this one. Not after the disaster of the last eight Republican years. Pity -- he truly is a great man.
McCain did alright, and I'm proud he was gracious. but i bawled, absolutely bawled through obama's speech. Please let there be hope in America again. Obama has the words, please bring me some justice.
I think McCain was in a very unpleasant strategic position where he could win the primary or win the general election, and running far enough to the right to do the first botched his chances at the general. If he’d never had to make those compromises and stuck to his principles from 2000, I think he would’ve done a lot better.
If the John McCain who spoke tonight had been around the last 8 months or so, the election would have been a lot closer. This is the guy who once said the religious right was ruining his party.
But he kowtowed to the far right, and lost because of it.
Go DEMS, Go Obama, and as Kinky Friedman would say, "May the God of your choice bless America!"
Very well put. His speech last night reminded me that I would have voted for him last time had he gotten the nomination. I'm proud of him for the first time since he sold out.
That was a gracious concession, made at exactly the right time. (Even slightly early would have discouraged west coast voting.) I hope McCain has come to his senses, and will be a more decent and compassionate senator than his campaign behavior would suggest. He demonstrates how much people can change...or maybe that the pressures of campaigning can drive a person crazy.
