TIME: 30 min.
DISTANCE: 3.4 mi.
TOTAL DISTANCE: 81.4 mi.
DISTRACTION: [livejournal.com profile] mirrorthaw playing de Blob
NOTES: Two 15 minute intervals of 1.7 mi. each, because I had to stop in the middle and roll my back. Now that I've got the shin splints sorted out, that's my worst problem: my spine does NOT want to be responsible for the weight of both my ribcage and my head.
SHIRE-RECKONING: Trudging through the Old Forest.

I'm having the same problem I always have with exercise; aside from the fact that I'm inherently disinclined to exertion, I can't find any form of exercise that isn't either (a.) boring or (b.) social. So it's hard--and gets progressively harder--for me to talk myself into it. Woe is me and my first world problems.

Oops, didn't see that you had shin splints, because I do know the cause of that (if yours come from rowing, that is). Basically in rowing your recovery should be slower than your stroke - the theory is that you're letting a boat move under you. Let the handle pull you back up the slide, don't pull yourself up. Sounds like you have those fixed, but I thought I'd mention it so they don't come back.

Can't tell if the spine issue is from rowing style, but one possibility is that you're hunching over too much. You could try staying a little straighter and seeing if it helps. Think about opening your rib cage enough to allow yourself to take full breaths.

I've been listening to books from Librivox (and also Metatropolis) on iPod, and that's helping a lot with the boredom.

No, my spine's complaint is that I'm not hunching. (I have long-standing not-quite-scoliosis issues, so this isn't in any way surprising.)

My solution to the boredom was for my exercise to be useful. I do a lot better if I can walk or bike *to* somewhere for an errand.

I have the same problems with walking

So I swim and/or go through martial arts practice. Neither is boring or social, which is a good thing because I am a serious loner o.O
