A particular kind of stuckness

From a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] matociquala about why none of my short stories work currently:

It's like being a rat and working your way through a maze, and then the researcher says, "Okay, the next step is, you have to fly." And you're a rat. You don't even know where to go to get wings.

There's clearly something my brain is trying to figure out, but I don't know what it is or how to help. But, you know, sooner or later you can expect a lot of flying rats.

You know, now either you or [livejournal.com profile] matociquala need to write the flying rat story or let someone else have it. :)

Edited because I can spell and do know the difference between "or" and "are," I swear to the heavens.

I second this. Especially if the story still manages to somehow be about writers and writers block.

Warn me before the rats start flying, Sarah. I might need a helmet or something. ;)

Hee! That is one great mental image. Flying rats! LOL :)

If the rats need to fly, they should dream of birds. Or possibly bats. This sideways-on approach is surprisingly successful. One day you just wake up with wings.

Whenever I can't write, it means I should be drawing. Whenever I can't draw, it means I should be writing. I'd suggest switching gears for a while? If it isn't entirely creative.
