half an hour with the Wii Fit.

The little animated Wii Fit board is cute and perky and it is totally Big Brother. Not unlike the incredibly cute alien at the Congressional hearings in Bloom County.

Yesterday, mine asked me if I wanted to review my sleep habits, and left me staring at it in suspicion. "There is no way you could know that!"

Today, my animated trainer felt like discussing his sleep habits with me. *shakes her head*

I've noticed that the trainers seem benevolent and helpful, but the animated Wii Fit is a cheerfully heartless taskmaster. It's the one that will tell you if you're overweight, scolding "That's not good!"

No matter how badly I mess up, the trainers always seem encouraging-- unlike the Wii Fit. It has told me about bathing in lukewarm water, but cautioned me not to bathe it due to its circuits.

The only other advice I can offer is you can do the tree pose with your foot on your ankle instead of your thigh-- just never on your knee joint. I'm still working on that blasted "Dance" pose.

I find Free Step very useful: just set it to half an hour and put on the news, and I get my exercise and catch up on the day’s events. Lost 12 pounds thus far...

That may be the best description of the balance board ever.

I grew a dislike for it, not because it was a harsh taskmaster or noticed slips in routine, but because it completely failed to notice things like me entering a significant amount of other activity on the record, and asking me if I ever do anything besides Wii Fit. It strikes me sometimes that it wouldn't have been that hard to tweak the program so the random queries were at least marginally more responsive to actual input.
