to [livejournal.com profile] ursulav on the murder of George Tiller, and as is often the case with Ursula, she's said what I feel, only so much more articulately.

I am repeating quietly to myself, over and over, that going out and lynching 100 random "pro-lifers" would be an over-reaction.

But that's somewhere around how angry I am.

Anger is not the best place to make policy from, and if I keep repeating this long enough perhaps I'll calm down some.

May I suggest you volunteer to be a clinic escort or donate money to the National Network of Abortion Funds instead? They provide funding for women who are having trouble affording an abortion.

Last I checked the local clinics aren't needing escorts or volunteer security or whatever, though I should check again since that may have changed. Sending money various directions, yes.

It was a good post she made

But yeah, hypocrisy of that sort seriously pisses me off. A lot of people who call themselves pro-lifers are like that dude who locked his daughter up in a basement, raped her, and had kids by her and nobody caught on until she got sick, and got taken to a hospital that had people asking the right questions about certain inconsistencies in that old man's story. But either way, don't go killing people in the name of being 'pro-life' your kind has no respect for me and all that crap does is expose you for the hideous morons that you are.

I was stunned that he was one of *three* left in the country willing to do this for the women who need it.

Talk about terrorism.

Apparently, the vast majority of these late term abortions are because of severe health problems of the fetus. And I heard on the radio from a former coworker of Dr. Tiller, that he also provided a late term abortion for a ten year old who was raped. I cannot deny the sad necessity of this medical service. When I'm in financially better circumstances I plan to donate to the suggested charities. Also, remember the women of the third world and their need for access to abortion through charity--unfortunately the USA does not support charities that provide abortion.

I thought the rule about funding had been changed in the new administration. Or is it a plan that hasn't been put into practice yet?

http://slacktivist.typepad.com/slacktivist/2009/06/killing-in-the-name-of.html does a good job of tracking how the nutjob fundies got to this point.

I didn't realized the Southern Baptist Convention was actually in favor of women's rights in the 70s.
