are more successful than others. Still, a very fun idea.

Saw the literal "Total Eclipse of the Heart" the other day, and almost needed a mop afterwards. ;P

But the best part may have been going from thinking that this video is a little odd to thinking "Odd? Odd doesn't cut it, something is so very wrong." Somehow, I never watched it as closely as I should have, apparently, even though I've always liked the song.

I shall look at these from home.

The title of the ragtime one reminds me of Max Raabe, are you faimilar with him ? sort of 20s/30s cabaret versions of rock songs - as well as doing the original material of that period really rather well; here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6N4ljsR_Yo) are some (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wNmBWHPQ00) examples (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZ6zkW1khfw).

The ragtime is great. My son has an infant musical toy that plays "The Final Countdown" in piano and it sounds just like this. It also will play it in dog barks, which is of course the version that's stuck in my head forever.

Speaking of "The Final Countdown," have you seen it performed on the kazookeylele (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAg5KjnAhuU)?

(Warning: this fucking thing is earwormy like no other. But it is also hysterical.)

[edited to spell kazookeylele correctly]

That was hootful. And you caught it before it went viral. Only 301 views so far.

On the other hand, I think the "Total Eclipse of the Heart" isn't one of the best. The winners on that front so far are the four from dust films. I'm not going to bother posting links, just search youtube for "literal video" and:

  • Take on Me
  • Head Over Heels (best one)
  • Under the Bridge
  • White Wedding

This will cause my fiancee numerous eyerolls. She already suffers when I sing along with alternate lyrics to songs that sound really alike, like the whole Pachelbel's Canon=All Kinds of Songs.

Lately I'll just call her up and bust out "Could you imagine a whole album of Eddie Vedder covers? Like Christmas Carols? Or him covering Natalie Merchant? They sorta have that same lilting rasp sometime."

All of those have "Can't Find A Better Man" subvocalized somewhere.
