I don't know [livejournal.com profile] cpolk personally, but she is a good friend of a good friend, and one heck of a writer (here are two of her stories: "If One Should Pass This Way Again" and "Bright Wings and Wax"), and her roommate has just totally, EPICALLY screwed the pooch.

If you can contribute anything, right this minute Chelsea could use the help.

ETA: FYI, her PayPal account cannot do credit card transactions.

ETA2: No, it's too late for her to talk to her landlord, social services, etc. etc. The bailiff is coming TOMORROW to lock the doors.

ouch!

Been there, gods know it might happen someday again, though @ least it would be a bank screwing me & not my roomie. Added a pittance to the pile, hope it's of some help. Good for you for passing along the message.

Poor thing! I've never been in that situation (and truly hope never to be!!) Thanks for the link. I was having a kind of crappy day and this just totally put it into perspective. I wasn't able to send much, but it felt good to know I could send a little!

re: ETA2: the landlord can do that after one missed rent payment? That's...insane.

I'll add that to the list of reasons I'm glad I'm not in Alberta. D:

Good luck to her. It sounds like the internet is delivering, at least.

It's two missed rent payments, May and June, and no communication, and really, if you owned a building you would want people who would pay rent or at least talk to you about the problem. Having said that, in Quebec it would be the third month before they were evicted that way.

In BC, it's 90 days (so four missed payments, since the first day would be the first missed payment) plus time to serve and receive notice, and the tenant can apply for arbitration/assistance even after notice is served. Sometimes I forget that the west coast is ... different.
