The Virtu; Or, sleary is a Hero of the Revolution

[ETA: all copies of The Virtu and The Queen in Winter have been spoken for.]

Previously, on Buffy the Vampire Slayer ...

No, wait. That's something else.

Buttercup is marry Humperdinck ...

No, that's something else, too.

*ahem*

As many of you know, The Virtu is out of print. Back when I first posted about it, the unbelievably awesome [livejournal.com profile] sleary said she knew where to get remaindered copies and volunteered to act as a buying agent; I have just received an update from her, as follows:

After the first round of comments, I had more requests than books. The manager promised to find more. It took him a month to get back to me instead of the few days he'd estimated, but when he did call, he had scrounged an entire box from his other stores! I've taken care of everyone on the waiting list from the first round, and I have eleven copies left.

When I went to pick those up, I discovered a stack of The Queen in Winter, so I grabbed those too. I have six left.

I've set up a page on my site with shipping info and costs: http://stephanieleary.net/about/contact/sarah-monette-books/

The situation with Ace is still up in the air, so I do suggest that if you want The Virtu, you take shameless advantage of [livejournal.com profile] sleary's good nature. Personally, I am deeply grateful to her.

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] sleary!

[ETA: The Queen in Winter is a romance/fantasy anthology which includes a novella of mine, A Gift of Wings, set in the same world as the Doctrine of Labyrinths. No characters, plot devices, or other impedimenta from the books appear in the novella, and vice versa. And it is, in fact, het romance. The other stories in the anthology are by Sharon Shinn, Claire Delacroix, and Lynn Kurland.]

Tell Ace that the CHEAPEST copy of The Virtu at Amazon.com, from their used book dealers, is $54!!!

There is at least one reasonably-priced copy of the paperback (http://isbn.nu/9780441015160) out there... but yeah.

Update: copies of The Queen are all spoken for. (Damn, y'all are quick.) Fortunately, this one is available at good prices elsewhere (http://isbn.nu/9780425207727), unlike The Virtu.

If you're in Canada, I believe I've seen The Queen in Winter (remaindered, alas) at Chapters.

I HIGHLY recommend Sarah's story in this book, which I really enjoyed.

I'm so glad that I already have a copy! I better pick up the rest of the doctrine books, while I can.

All of my friends know that I'm hunting "The Virtu", so a few days ago, one of them sent me a link, where she'd seen a reasonable priced copy.
When I checked the link, a few hours later, it was already gone. So I just checked other online stores and... I mean, yes, I really REALLY want a copy, but they went from 70 to 350 dollars! That's much more than my income of starving-student-surviving-on-scholarship can afford...

I found The Queen In Winter last year for sale, and that story was fabulous. In case you needed more back-patting. Het romance is fine! :)

... and that's the lot; I'm out.

[livejournal.com profile] truepenny, your fandom is international. I have books here going to Canada, Mexico, Australia, Scotland, France, and Bulgaria, and the first request I couldn't fill was for Germany. :)

Hey, we even have a line on a spare copy for our German friend, thanks to someone in New Zealand! 'Tis a small world, until you pay for shipping. (I have just staggered home from the post office. All but 3 have been mailed, and my receipt is hilariously long.)

Wow. I'm SO glad I found myself a hardcover copy of The Virtu when I was at Chapters last -- in the Bargain Books section no less. I'm thinking I should have a bit from my next paycheck and get hardcover copies of Melusine and The Mirador, because I'm quickly wearing out my paperbacks.

Hardcovers are certainly not as easy to tote around in a purse, but I will sacrifice that for the chance to re-read them for decades rather than years.

I'd like to mention again, that if any Canadians need copies, I know where to find at least a few more.

[identity profile] punday.livejournal.com 2009-07-01 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
are these still available?

~ Thanks!

AS far as i know; I found copies remaindered in not one but several branches of a particular chain. I should be able to get my hands on one or two easily enough. my e-mail is renfox (at) lenorarose dot-com .
