TRUEPENNY calls MIRRORTHAW at work

TRUEPENNY: This is going to be short and stupid. Do you have
any idea what I did with my watch?

MIRRORTHAW: Last time I saw it, it was on the floor by the couch.

Truepenny scuffles briefly amid slippers and notebooks.

TRUEPENNY: Aha!

MIRRORTHAW: Good thing I noticed it this morning.

TRUEPENNY: (beaming) Wonderful husband!

Aww.

I'm sure you're also familiar with the magical ritual where the moment you have asked, or even just complained, about a missing object, you find it.

P: I can't find my damn keys! I've looked everywhere!

D: I'm afraid I haven't seen them. Have you --

P: Look! They're on the mantelpiece! I never put them there. How weird. Thank you.

And polyamory? N extra brains!

Of course, this couldn't be so helpful as to work when consciously invoked.

And polyamory? N extra brains!

One wonders how functionality varies with N; I have the feeling that it becomes exponentially harder to find brains with strengths and weaknesses compatible with a pre-existing set of brains as the number in that set increases. And that the bandwidth bottleneck in mostly long-distance poly counteracts the relaxation of needs for practical compatibility...

I suddenly have the image of LDRs between Dyson Spheres stuck in my head. I have been reading too much Charlie Stross, I think.

I believe PK sees it the same way. It's fortunate that I have an extraordinarily good memory for stuff left lying around, dates we're supposed to be doing stuff, etc. Having said which, I have to say that he's improved immeasurably on the dates business since he a) bought a PDA and b) I found I could add stuff to his desktop while he's at work, ready for synchronisation!

I do the dates and appointments stuff; Mirrorthaw can't even remember his OWN birthday half the time. It's physical objects that elude me. So I guess maybe the more accurate assessment would be that together, we add up to one mostly functional brain. Par for the course.

PK's superpower is to remember short-story titles, dates of publication and so on. He's very useful for that.
