"The meeting soon broke up into a series of fish-fights."

That's classic.

Bring me a wet haddock!

Of course, Dawson lived in Hastings, so it may well have been a fish fight.... there would have been plenty of ammunition available.

Ah, typos, gotta love them

I like the concept.

"I've haddock up to here!"

"I can coelocanth hold your drink, serra!"

"Cod dammnit! You keep tarpon my constitution, I'll have to whale the tar from you."

"Raise your dux, sir. I'll conger you blue-gilled!"

{sound of clammy fish-on-fish action ensues}

You, sir or ma'am or variation there-upon, are brilliant. And also frighteningly adept at creating fish-related puns.

It's not my fault, really. I learned to read on dinosaur names. Nomenclature sticks to my brain when nothing else does.

At least until the aphasia hits.

"Dawn!? Have your wahoo light the candlefish!"

(raises his thumb to his nose) "humuhumunukunukuapuaa!"

[identity profile] alan-yee.livejournal.com 2009-09-19 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I would watch a fish-fight, since I've never sen one before. Right now I'm imagining people throwing fish at each other.

Er, that should be "seen". I hit Post Comment too quickly.

*rofls*

Mind you, I know some Oxonians for whom a fish-fight would be entirely in-character...

Having a pocketful of scallops and a good arm, I was holding my own pretty well, until Muenster pulled out that damned tuna and broke my nose.

I recently ran into a story where there was a mention of someone breaking into "cold cmountains." Presumably there were other hills in the story that used to be mountains as well.

[identity profile] msisolak.livejournal.com 2009-09-19 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah! So it takes place at Seattle's Pike Place Fish Market (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWRLC1NpZTo&feature=related)!

I wonder if it was something like this:

Fish fighting has been outlawed in most of the United States, though you can find a few backwoods places where you can watch a perch go up against a trout. Didn't the New York Times do an expose on this a few years ago?

[identity profile] ruthannereid.livejournal.com 2009-09-19 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That is the funniest thing I have read all day.

[identity profile] cheloya.livejournal.com 2009-09-19 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Presumably begun by, "What are you going to do, hit me with that fish?"

"The meeting soon broke up into a series of fish-fights."

More arguments should end this way.

Yes, but they were using swordfish.
