Apr. 7th, 2003 07:28 pmOr, more accurately, Where The Heck Am I?
Vol. 2, Ch. 3, has stalled on me, because I know where I'm going, but I can't find the entrance ramp.
My Arthurian noir, which had bogged down, I thought irreparably, on questions of motive, is suddenly alive and kicking again--and getting nastier by the second.
The short story I'd been working on has turned out to be the second half of a novella (the first half being a story that's been getting rejection letters complaining about lack of plot--now I know where the plot is). This requires editing which at the moment I have no discernible enthusiasm for.
Dissertation? I did some reading this afternoon. I can do this; it just requires some sternness on the part of my superego.
So the thing I can't figure out at the moment is: what should I be working on? Dissertation, yes, but we have to accept it as a given that I cannot work on the dissertation and nothing else. Woman does not live by dissertation alone. Do I plod grimly on staring at The Project? Do I commit my imagination to the Arthurian noir? Do I step aside entirely and try to get some more short stories finished? (I still haven't gotten anywhere with the story for "Sidhe Tigers," which is moderately infuriating.)
Nobody has to answer these questions; I'm just getting my options out where I can look at them.
