Thursday, I got back from DeKalb--where I had a lovely time. Thank you, rarelylynne, michaeldthomas, and everyone who came to the event. (I don't know quite what to call it, since it wasn't a reading and it wasn't a talk, and it wasn't exactly a Q&A, so let's just go with "event.") Also, OMG. Best Cupcakes EVAR.

Tomorrow, I leave for a week in Arizona. (Reminder: along with most of the rest of the Shadow Unit stable, I will be at the Tucson Festival of Books next Saturday. And may I just say that, irregardless of us, the TFoB looks pretty darn spectacular?)

In the interim, I need to buy a new swimsuit, as mine has become somewhat peculiar with age, and I suspect it will also no longer fit. I also need to reanchor the button of my cargo pants, as they are currently the best pants-for-climbing I have. And probably I need to do several other things, including putting away the clean laundry from last week (*ahem*) and, you know, packing.

I suspect this will start feeling more like a vacation once I actually get there.

Dear Mole, you need to bring a big sun hat, a light weight cover-up shirt, and the highest SPF sunscreen you can find. If you can't find anything serious, tell Emma to take you out to buy some 75 when you get here.

It may be just March, but March in Tucson is like July everywhere else.

Good. The lowest SPF sunscreen I wear is 30, and I wear 50 on my face in Winter, 70 in the Summer.

And I'm dark.

The TFoB was pretty spectacular last year, and looks to be at least as good this year. It should be fun -- and it takes place on a pretty nice-looking campus.

Sunhat is the most important survival equipment. Second is a small bottle of water, to be constantly refilled. Fortunately, we're having splendid weather this month.

Tucson also has three, three Bookmans (http://www.bookmans.com/). The one on Speedway seems to be the nicest, and I believe the one on Grant was the original location. They have tons of used books, music, and other stuff. The proximity to U of A guarantees an interesting cross-section.
