In case you felt like you were getting too much work done today, the Hatfield Marine Science Visitor Center at Oregon State University has installed a camera in the tank of their giant Pacific octopus: OctoCam.

THERE IS AN OCTOPUS IN MY COMPUTER! I AM BESIDE MYSELF WITH GEEKER JOY! (And may have to disable my capslock for the good of humanity.)

OCTOPUS!!!!!

As the person who suggested this to the HMSC something like four years ago, and who - now that we finally have a clever team capable of making the thing happen - built the Web page, launched it this morning and is doing her level best to spread it around the social media world today, may I just say how happy I am to see lovely people passing the link from hand to hand.

I feel like the octopus's fairy godmother. (-:

Wow! *bows down* Were you one of the people waving at the camera 15 minutes ago?

Nope, I'm based inland about 50 miles. But I *was* over there shooting photos on Saturday, and I waved to the much smaller audience then. (-:

Oh, my, thanks you so much! I've been very grumpy today, but watching the octopus has cheered me up immensely.

Although I'm drawing parallels between him and one of my cats - the one who does chin-ups to look out the letter-slot and see if he can get out that way. (Kitty no fit through letterslot; tank has lid.)

Oh, wow! That is way out past cool.

...Can we send him toys? He looks as if he wants toys. *g*
