LJ amnesty

First of all, I grant LJ amnesty in perpetuity. If you want to take me off your Friends list, then do. Don't worry about it. I won't be offended or hurt or mad.

Secondly, having basically been away from LJ for a week (*goes into withdrawal*) I've realized that I need to reprioritize (many aspects of my life). In particular, I need to get AWAY from Buffy discussions. I've got too much other shit going on. So I'm pruning my Friends list. If you're suddenly off it, it doesn't mean I don't like you; it means (most likely) that what we have in common is Buffy (or some other fannish thing), and I just can't cope with the Buffyness at the moment. (Not that I'm going to stop watching, but I am pretty much going to stop thinking, at least until the end of the season.) I need to focus my online energies (as well as my other energies) in other directions.

I may reverse on this in a day, a week, a month ... I don't know. But right now, my instincts say this is what I need to do. Again, it isn't a slam or a sign of hostility. It's certainly not a sign that you're boring (Hell, no!). Just me needing to clear some headspace out.

Hope y'all understand.

*worries*

Yes, but you aren't one of those with whom my primary common ground is Buffy, and in point of fact I haven't taken you off my friends list. You needn't wave goodbye. I doubt I'll read your Buffy posts, but I'll definitely read your book reviews and other sundries.

I'm not withdrawing from LJ altogether, just from the parts of it that are not feeding my writing, which weirdly turned out to be the Buffy stuff. The problem is there's too many good & entertaining writers out there in the LJverse, and I had to make some hard choices. I'm sad about it, but it feels like the right thing to do.

Eek!

I understand needing to get away from Buffyness, but, um, Dorothy L. Sayers? The Dark Is Rising? C.S.Lewis? What I mean is, while of course you are welcome to unfriend me and not even give a reason and my feelings are not hurt, I think I'm somewhat bewildered if you think the only thing we have in common is Buffyness. (I can't even remember the last time I posted about Buffy on my livejournal...)

Whoops... actually, just noticed the important clause "or some other fannish thing". *retires blushing, hoping to be ignored*

Yes, but this is the selfish bit where I hope YOU keep reading ME. What I want is not actually to Unfriend ANYBODY; I just want not to have to keep up with so many people's journals. I want you all to come to me instead.

God am I an egocentric bitch or what?

Anyway, no, our common ground is certainly not Buffy. It's all about the books, baby. *g* Please keep posting here, even if I'm not reciprocating for a while. Hopefully, I'll get projects and life and so on back under some sort of control and then I can add people back. I hope.

<whispers> Filters. They're kinda cool. The neat thing is that there's no indication that you're using them; and you have to be logged in as yourself to read your filtered friendslist-- so that even if someone else figured out your filter-word is "spaceship", truepenny.livejournal.com/friends/spaceship won't actually show them who is filtered and who not.

Although then you get into the weird situation where you kind of know that you and your friend are mutually filtering one another. And that's just silly. I've been cutting my own friendslist to reflect the fact that I don't want to use a filter any more.

But. They are useful.

Yes, but it seems dishonest. I'd rather just say, however gracelessly, Look, I can't deal right now, and get on with my life. Less wear and tear in the long run, I think.

Gosh, when I read that I was sure I'd be gone (even though I never post about Buffy! Almost never! Last time was an aberration! I only talk about it to avoid talking about politics. Or grad school. And it doesn't work.)

Anyway, if it was just a temporary oversight that left me among the few & the proud and you do drop me off the list eventually it'll be fine. I tend to be more interesting in other people's comments than in my own journal- I don't know why.

All the best for your dis.

Not pulling you off my friends' list, by the way. Your literary posts and thoughts are much appreciated here.

Filters

I read all the people I have befriended, but I have a filter which is of the people whose journals I want to check back to -- it's sort of more a filter of comment threads. So I may want to hear X's amusing story about how she scraped her knee, without wanting to read ninety-eight of her friends saying "Poor old thing", whereas I want to read not only your reviews of Lewis, but people arguing about them later. So it's a checked-back filter. I find it makes things easier to manage.

This may not be the best place, but I just wanted to let you know that, having found you through [livejournal.com profile] pegkerr, I added you because I find your journal interesting (and I did read back a bit).

Having just pruned your own friends list, I would certainly not be offended if you chose not to add me. Heh.

Also, I find your choice of Buffy As Vampire for icon interesting.... (So that should tell you that I'm a Buffy-geek).

No, that's cool. I probably won't add you--at least for a while--but I'm delighted if you enjoy my posts.

Yeah, vamp!Buffy. I can't explain why I clicked with that icon. I just did.
