::kicks world::

Really horrifically unpleasant dreams (I think my subconscious was punishing me for championing nonhuman species' right not to be Evil Hordes, because the aliens in these dreams--hoo boy), followed by this (about which I am so furious and heartbroken that I just . . . there aren't any words for how much I despise the people who did this) and this (ARE YOU HAPPY NOW, WISCONSIN VOTERS? ARE YOU?)--I pretty much hate everything right now.

So the bit in Fellowship where the Balrog leans down and goes GAWOAAWOARRRR!!! in Gandalf's face? Yeah. Like that.

WTFingF?

Of all the stupid...

Ok, see, I'm not a fan of religion-and if you want to have a bitch party sit in a circle and say mean things about the Pope, I will TOTALLY bring the cookies. But desecrating a beautiful thing that can't be replaced? What could someone possibly hope to gain from that?

Some people, I think, just like to see other people cry. Those people make me wish I believed in something that could smite them, or at least curse them with hemorrhoids. Eternal, divine hemorrhoids.

And the rail thing. Good grief. Stupid, stupid, stupid warrgarbllesnarf.

Yeah, whatEVER, humans.

Um. Have some pandas (http://firefoxlive.mozilla.org/)?

[identity profile] truepenny.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Red pandas. Much better than people.

it's a vile thing to do (especially if the rumour it was a local developer taking revenge for not getting planning permission is true) but there's six foot of it left so it might well sprout (and there are several other trees taken as cuttings from it in the past, especially as the first tree planted in 1951 died so I think they kept some as spares). it won't be the same - and it was lovely to see on the hill when I lived there - but there's some hope at least.

[identity profile] truepenny.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That's good to know (about the cuttings and so on, not about the rumor). Thank you!

[identity profile] inizitu.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I wondered about that. I don't really know much about trees, so I wasn't sure if there was any hope. Thanks for that. =)

Scott Walker is so out of touch it's like a case of political, social, and historical neuropathy. Arrgh. Maybe he and our ghastly Jan Brewer could go create their own island nation...preferably on an island that will be swamped by rising sea levels.

[identity profile] truepenny.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, please.

[identity profile] sillylilly-bird.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I am ALL for that - I will help them pack.

[identity profile] kitgordon.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Both very upsetting--the first for historical reasons (since I'm not religious, but love the history and myths of religion) and the second because it's just more evidence of how stupid Republicans are. At least we (finally) got our Democratic governor in Minnesota, even though he has to deal with a Republican legislature.

I find myself agreeing with Balrog in this instance.

[identity profile] bluestalking.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, what a horrible combination. I had about a week solid of nightmares recently, and it really screws up everything else in your day. I saw about the tree, though, and heartbroken is the word. Every time I think of someone deliberately cutting into those limbs, it physically hurts my heart.

[identity profile] iridiumfall.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
As a fellow Wisconsin resident (and one who would've taken that rail line at least once a week), I'm right there with you. Very, very angry.

Those are both hugely depressing things. The thorn may well regrow: they are tough trees, those, and they fight back. I hope it does, because it was a fine thing in a lovely location. (The hill. When in Glastonbury, I have to have minders, as my mediaeval historian button gets set off so much -- [livejournal.com profile] mevennen is very tolerant.)
I share your feelings about Evil Hordes. I don't have them in my stuff, either (despite attempts by some readers of my non-fiction to persuade me into assigning that role to the Anglo-Saxons and Anglo-Normans).

[identity profile] torrilin.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Augh. Stupid bastard wants me to have to buy a car or move away. Damnit. Damnit. Damnit.

Where are my trains? I WAS PROMISED TRAINS!!! It is the future!

[identity profile] smills47.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Killing high-speed rail is so short-sighted. I don't expect to live to see it happen myself, but I'm convinced the automobile will end as it began: a rich man's toy.

And the governor-elect is just getting started, too. I fear we have some interesting years ahead.

(Anonymous) 2010-12-10 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
What's really really stupid was that they *didn't* kill high speed rail: they killed any chance of Ohio and Wisconsin being part of the new backbone, and stopped themselves getting paid for that privilege (when I know Ohio at least is desperately short on cash.)

The way things stand now, I expect at some time in the future, both states will end up as detours off the main line, at a much greater expense.

I'm.....I'm....I'm....atfjewigjnvierljafl;es. *rolls face on keyboard out of sheer fury*

I just don't understand. Why must people be such.....bah, I have no words. To hurt a major historical object for ANY reason is just.....AAAAAAAAAGH. *Head explodes*

*rages more about the trains, but does so silently due to lack of a head*

...would apricot twists help?

(Also -- okay, the rail news is awful, but Mayor Dave talking smack about the incoming governor? AWESOME.)

Is it perhaps worth noting that, whilst obviously no vandalism should go uncondemned (well... little vandalism should), and whilst obviously this is an attack worthy of investigation...

the 2,000 year old tree is actually not quite 60? And the original was cut down less than 400 years ago, although not by much, and a cutting regrew the tree, in a manner that should be fully repeatable? The Daily Mail's senseless-outrage capabilities, by manipulating the story and telling half-truths (see also, "It was anti-Christians what did it!" in the headline; no evidence or even bringing-up of this idea in the article), are strong...

[identity profile] inizitu.livejournal.com 2010-12-10 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
This is absolutely worth noting and I am now fascinated and wish to know more!

However old the tree is, this particular piece of vandalism just smells mean. I mean, what other reason to cut down that particular tree? I don't think it's a hate-crime, just a crime of cutting down something pretty for the sake of petty meanness. Like a high school mean girl clique with a chain saw.

Well, that's a horrible thought. I'm going to go Google trees, now.
