Happy New Year! (fanservice for the animal lovers)

The take-home lesson from 2010 is: don't break your ankle.

Other than that, I'n not doing any kind of Year in Review post. Instead:

Milo, my five-year-old Holsteiner cross (he's half Holsteiner, a quarter Arabian, and a quarter Percheron), is a goofy soul. In evidence, I offer this exchange from last night, as I was untacking him:

MILO: Hey, what's that? Is it a cookie?
ME: It's a polo wrap. Purple, no less.
MILO: Is it tasty?
ME: Frankly, I imagine it tastes like a sweatsock.
MILO: Huh. Yeah, you're right. Totally sweatsock.
...
MILO: Hey, what's that?
ME: It's still a purple polo wrap.
MILO: It could be a cookie. Is it tasty?
ME: It's still gonna taste like a sweatsock, buddy.
MILO: Huh. Yeah, you're right. That's not tasty at all.
...
MILO: Hey, what's that?
ME: Purple polo wrap. Again.
MILO: Are you sure it's not a cookie?
ME: Sweatsock.
MILO: Oh, right. Where's the cookies, then?

I could not get all four cats into the frame at once, but I assure you they're all on the bed.

Left to right, that's the First Ninja, Catzilla, and the Second Ninja.

And off stage right, the Elder Saucepan does what he does best:

Happy New Year! Here's to 2011!

I continue in my adoration of the Elder Saucepan.

I don't think I've seen a photo of Catzilla before. So innocent-looking. That is not how I had imagined this one. "Dude! Check out this totally awesome plastic bag!"

The ninjas have a kind of Tweedledum and Tweedledee quality, very cute but slightly alarming.

That innocent look is a SNARE and a DELUSION.

Your Catzilla looks like my Zachias.

A happy, healthy, prosperous 2011 to you and yours. And don't break anything.

Where can one vote for More Milo? He's great!

Also, we appear to have a relative of your Ninjas here. He's currently most frequently referred to as Bad Kitty or BK. Hooray for tuxedos :)

Happy New Year! No broken bones in 2011!

I can relate- no matter how many times neighborhood cats thump our Golden she persists in believing maybe this time they will want to be friends.

Also, yeah, ankle-breaking, not as much fun as you might think. That is to say not at all.

So... if that's what the Elder Saucepan does best... what is he doing exactly?

Ah, okay. It looked a bit like he had his nose in something more or less nefarious.

I love your Milo conversation. More in the new year, please, if you can arrange it without too much trouble.

I adore your cat detente. I am also a fan of the Elder Saucepan. Husband does not understand how a cat can come to be called Saucepan, much less the elder one. He humbly requests an explanation, if you see fit to explain, as I don't know either, but simply accepted Elder Saucepan as a very charming name for a cat.

Catzilla does look very sweet and harmless in that photo, though.

I'll second the advice not to break an ankle. I can also recommend that you don't break a femur, nor acquire soft tissue damage of the knee. The soft tissue damage tends to take forever to heal. The soft tissue damage is very easy to re-injure, as well. I have to baby the knee more than I like, and continue to do PT exercises with it a year and a half later.

Okay. He's the oldest of the cats by ten years (he'll be sixteen in February), so I borrowed Elder Statescat from . . . oh dear. From someone, who may identify him/herself if s/he wishes. (Mind like a steel wossname.) Then, when he was a bit younger and less arthritic, he had a bad habit of jumping up to inspect the stove-top . . . and when a biped came in to find out what the bizarre noise was, he would freeze (generally half-in and half-out of a pot), staring at you with round yellow eyes: I'm a saucepan! I swear! So he became the Elder Saucepan.

Hmm, I always thought it had a certain Lewis Carroll quality.
Kitty, er, 2 legged

I <3 Milo. Give that horse a cookie!

Hah! I mock your puny four-cat bed detente, for I must deal with five-cat bed detente, with me in the bed.

[identity profile] truepenny.livejournal.com 2011-01-01 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, he got his cookies. Don't worry. :)

[identity profile] heathwitch.livejournal.com 2011-01-01 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, horse! :-)

Also, *dies of teh cute* when it comes to kitties. Catzilla looks almost like a Norwegian Forest Cat... Is he?

[identity profile] truepenny.livejournal.com 2011-01-01 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Highly unlikely. :)

He's the cat we found in our flowerbed. He looks pretty much exactly like a Maine Coon, except he's about half the size.

This will seem a bit random, but has anyone contacted you looking for copies of the Doctrine of Labyrinths? I'm about to move the the UK and trying to get rid of some of my books, and since the DoL is available on Kindle I thought I'd buy it on that and pass on the meatspace editions, if anyone was looking to buy. I have Melusine and the Virtu in paperback, and Mirador and Corambis in hardcover; the paperbacks are in "Good" condition (acto Amazon standards ('http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=1161242') ) and the hardcovers in "Very Good" condition.

There are always people looking, as far as I can tell. If you'd like, I can make a post giving people a heads up and telling them to contact you if interested.

That would be great! Thank you!
