My afternoon got derailed by an unexpected trip to the vet, as the Elder Saucepan vomited up some blood. The answer is most likely the pain medication he's on, so we're switching for a couple of weeks, plus giving him Pepcid. (Yes, the OTC stuff, only he gets a quarter of the 10 mg pill.)

Because we were at the vet, I couldn't make my dressage lesson today, which makes me almost ridiculously glum. Hopefully, my instructor can fit me in this weekend. And I am quite certain I made the right decision.

When I got home, I checked the mail and found a packet from the sleep clinic waiting, with a twelve (count 'em, 12) page questionnaire. I filled it out while the cats ate, and stuck it in my purse, so that I cannot forget it when I have my appointment on February 10. It may be a little battered by then, but at least it won't be sitting innocently and uselessly on the dining room table.

From filling out the questionnaire, I can report, with the kind of relief you get when it's not a surprise but you're relieved all the same, that I have no symptoms of narcolepsy. Those questions were scary. But the RLS was a definite "yes."

Speaking of same, [livejournal.com profile] heresluck pointed me at this article on RLS; I'm pleased that everyone agrees it's real, but can we talk about how comforting it ISN'T to be in a 3% minority?

I am very much hoping the sleep clinic can help me.

I hope Elder Saucepan is feeling better soon, and that your dressage lesson gets re-scheduled! :)

Hopefully Elder Saucepan will adjust well to new pain meds and his tummy heals nicely.

My Smoky threw a blood clot early Sunday morning and spent 30+ hours at the hospital. He's doing very well now, so here's to the resiliency of felines!

I really, really hope you find long term relief for your RLS. I had it when I was pregnant and it was NOT FUN (but I'm sure you don't need an anonymous commenter to tell you that).

Anyway, since I'm leaving a comment, just wanted to tell you how much I love your writing. If I see your name on something I will pick it up without any further investigation - I know it will be fabulous! Thank you so much for many hours of enjoyment.

Also wanted to add - if you ever decide to teach a course on any aspect of Nazi Germany or the Salem witch trials, I will move heaven and earth to register for it.

Ah! I missed this post due to all sorts of recent adventures, but if you want to talk about RLS and possible treatment options at some point, please put me into your list of People You Know Who Have RLS.

(It was no fun to have it after the hip replacement surgery. I am now wondering how much of a trouble it was to you when dealing with the ankle.)

It started being excruciatingly awful sometime in September, as I started cutting back on the oxycodone, and while being able to walk and exercise again has made it better, it's still not great. The ropinirole (generic Requip) sort of helps. It also makes me queasy unless I take an antihistamine, so I'm definitely trying to figure out alternatives. I tried acupuncture for a while, which got derailed in December for reasons that have nothing to do with the acupuncture itself, and I should probably try to find another clinic now that I can drive again. I'm taking magnesium supplements and iron supplements. Lacking a control me to test against, of course, I have no idea how much they're helping.

I've heard about putting soap at the foot of the bed, but my suspension of disbelief can't hold.
