1. New Simon's Cat: "Sticky Tape."

2. Baby platypus! For which the correct word is puggle. Ditto for baby echidnas.

3. People have started reporting the arrival of Unnatural Creatures. Yay!

4. Last night involved a trip to the emergency vet with the Second Ninja. As best we can tell, she hurt her right hind leg, although since the vet couldn't find anything wrong, about all I can say for sure is that she scared the living daylights out of me, [livejournal.com profile] mirrorthaw, and herself.

I really need 2011 to cut this shit out.

5. Dear Universe, [livejournal.com profile] truepenny is still looking for a job, which she more and more needs to find thanks to her state's fucknut of a governor. (Yes, [livejournal.com profile] mirrorthaw is a state employee.) Since she now has, along with all her other health problems, RLS which means her sleep schedule is Teh FUBAR, she is pretty damn baffled as to how to find one. Any help you wanted to offer, O Universe, would be much appreciated. Sincerely, me.

Fucknut. Now I have a new name for the asshat that continues to worry that I will never be able to return to Wisconsin after grad school graduation.

You're probably the kind Scotty wants to keep out anyway: all edjamacated and everything. (Yup, I'm another of those greedy state workers, just like my beloved [livejournal.com profile] parkingprincess.)

I hope you've seen this:

WISCONSIN (http://vimeo.com/20482056) from @pawlmadethis (http://vimeo.com/pawlmadethis) on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com).

Ohh, I hadn't seen that. It was lovely. (and, it had 'Wisconsin' from Bon Iver, who is one of my all time favorites bands!)Thanks for that!

I'm sure Scotty does want to keep me out. Not only am I doing graduate work at Cornell, but I want to be a greedy state employee. Its been so hard watching this from afar.

But, luckily, I kept my residency in Wisconsin. I'll be signing for recall papers as soon as I can.

Several of the 19 Republican state senators who empower Walker's imperial schemes are now facing recall drives (of course, so are some of the Wisconsin 14).

Hi Sarah,
Unnatural Creatures arrived late last week; no time to read right now, because it's tech week for Dido, but I'm looking forward to it. Sending good vibes to you and Second Ninja!

I received my copy of Unnatural Creatures a couple days ago, read it last night, and wrote a rather effusive blog post (http://noondaystars.blogspot.com/2011/03/kyle-murchison-booth.html) about the Booth stories this morning.

Thank you, Brendan! I am always grateful for reviews that get what I'm trying to do.

There's debate by authorities whether puggle is any baby monotreme or strictly only echinas -- some insist that there is no name for a baby platypus. (Some discussion; I didn't source the disagreeing authorities, though.)

Having never seen Simon's Cat before, I have to thank you VERY MUCH for pointing it out. It made me giggle, and nothing has made me giggle for a long time.

If you are into technical writing, my workplace (Red Hat) is still looking for writers. Probably low-paying compared to what you are used to, but definitely available. This username at gmail if you want more details.

Sadly, I don't really have any suggestions to make. Just wanted to post solidarity. As soon as I'm well enough to leave my house, I'll be back at the Capitol.

1) Baby platypodes = me dead of cute.

2) Read Unnatural Creatures this morning. "The World Without Sleep" is my new favorite Booth story. Thank you. (Also, I am quietly cheering for the subtle arc I'm seeing in the last three stories - it feels like he is starting, tentatively, to connect to people.)

Unnatural Creatures arrived here safely Thursday, and has been read an enjoyed, and will be read and enjoyed again very soon. Apparently in honor of the memory of the late Ben Jonson, Elder Saucepan and Paper-chomping Yallopapus, Black-thumbed Jemmy Casey, Pirate Cat of the Cumberland dragged the book onto a plate holding the sticky traces of an ex-slice of lemon meringue pie. The book survived this without lasting harm, and so did the cat.

I wish you look with the employment issue, and with the feline health and welfare issue as well. I wish I could offer useful suggestions instead, but it looks like all I can do is buy books at this point.

Is this a sort of job thing that's amenable to freelance writery? I may have a line on something, but would have to check with a friend.

I am happy to report that my Unnatural Creatures also came to stay yesterday.

Apart from that, I truly wish you all the best with cat health and all the personal stuff
(I am not a state employee, but my sister is, teaching at an elementary school, and our state employees get screwed more and more every day here in Greece. As to the rest of us, we're just waiting for the day when all hell will break loose on the shoulders of the private sector as well...)

Mine arrived safely yesterday thanks, although I'm still at the stage of admiring it happily in anticipation of actually reading.

Simon's Cat made me laugh all the more in that one of ours did actually get stuck on a bit I left spare on the edge of my desk - she went a bit nuttier than this though.

People have started reporting the arrival of Unnatural Creatures. Yay!

You know, that first phrase is not usually followed by Yay! Perhaps something more in the vein of "OMG! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! THE INVASION HAS BEGUN!"

Or possibly I should just drink another cup of coffee.

I finished "Bone Key", which I loved, and now am halfway through "Unnatural Creatures", which I am also loving. I'm so glad that someone boosted the signal on the Memorial Fund because I wouldn't have found you and Booth as soon!

One deeply appreciated box of goodies arrived on Monday. True appreciation of the contents will have to wait until after exams, etc (approx. St. Patrick's Day). May both the humans & the felines experience increased health & employment.

My copy arrived Saturday (maybe it was mushed up here by dogsled!). In all the stories, it struck me for the first time that Booth seems to have a particularly acute sense of smell-- and oh yeah, "The World Without Sleep" is my favorite.
