The Second Ninja and I went to the vet today, as her right hind leg is still bothering her. She was a very good girl; although she complained all the way there, all the way through the exam, and all the way home, she put up with all the poking and prodding. The X-rays didn't find anything, so at least we know she's not running around on something broken or dislocated. We have pain medication for the weekend and are going to keep her in the TV/guest room, which has fewer objects she will be tempted to try to jump up on.

While I was waiting, I flipped through a CatFancy which (for a change) actually had something of interest:

Pet Crossing Animal Hospital, in Minnesota, has a partnership with Cornerstone, a Minnesota domestic abuse prevention agency, to provide no-cost boarding and medical care for the pets of domestic abuse victim. Something like 45% of people in abusive situations will not leave if it means they have to abandon their animals, so Pet Crossing's initiative is a wonderful, wonderful thing, both for the animals and for their people, and I'm glad to know about it.

Dane County has a similar thing with DCHS - I know cuz I referred a friend to them. I think it's called SAFE.

My cat came home with her tail broken last summer. (Or so I thought.)
But luckily it was just badly bruised. A little rest and tlc was all she needed. I hope your little ninja will feel better soon. I don't necessarily believe in healing, and certainly not the long distance kind, but you have my positive thought-waves zooming your way. ( And that goes for the other ninja, too.)

Poor Second Ninja. I hope it clears up soon. (Though keeping cats from leaping about is one of those rather Herculean tasks, in my experience.)

When Iniki (in the icon) dislocated her elbow so badly that they had to immobilize her entire leg for a week to let the ligaments heal, the vet said "Restrict her movements." Yeah, right.

Cats are so odd about their legs sometimes. I hope 2N gets better soon. My cat Jude started limping and after multiple trips to the vets he was put on a Glucosamine/Condrodin (I know I didn't spell that right). He's about 50% better and that's great because he was doing the Nazi salute there for awhile. He likes to reach under small spaces so maybe he and 2N sprained something?

Poor Second Ninja! my sympathies to her and also to you and [livejournal.com profile] mirrorthaw. I have to say, Jemmy's injury and associated e-collar did little to keep him down; he was awkward but still higly determined, and although he was hampered at first by his painkillers, these didn't keep him from at least trying to go everywhere and do everything he was accustomed to doing.

I am very impressed and thankful for Pet Crossing's work. I know I would be unwilling to leave an abusive situation if it left my beloved pets (or kids) vulnerable. Good for them! I will look at donating to them,. and also encouraging my local shelters to do similar work.
