1. The ebook of Somewhere Beneath Those Waves is available from Weightless Books.

2. Apex 31 includes my Booth story, "The Yellow Dressing Gown" (originally published in Weird Tales by the fabulous Ann Vandermeer).

3. Over on the Whatever, John Scalzi is hosting threads for authors to promote their own works as holiday gifts. If you're looking for ideas, I commend the Whatever Shopping Guide 2011 to you.

4. The pictures of these African Sulcata tortoises and their progeny fill me with delight.

5. We are still worried about our Jellicle Ninja. Good thoughts appreciated.

Best wishes for the Jellicle Ninja.

And also, thank you so much for those tortoises. Delight is the right word.

Thank you so much for the sulcatas! They left me meeping incoherently for several minutes. Link has been sent to Bobby's parents, who have one of their own (got at about that size 20 years ago, now 80lbs.).

I'm sorry the Jellicle Ninja is still having difficulty.

Ooh, tortoises!

A while back I probably made amused noises at you about the Bad Ferret List and the other Bad (whatever animal) Lists, right? They're the things that ferrets (or whatever) have to write on the chalkboard after they've been naughty. The Bad Ferret list is full of things like:

I will not do the weasel wardance next to the coffeetable and knock myself out.

I will not hide vegetables inside the couch.

... and my personal favorite:

There is nothing fun inside the printer.

There is also a Bad Tortoise List, which had only two items on it:

I will not attempt to mate with inanimate objects.

I will not destroy the lawn.

Your tortoise picture link brought that to mind, so thanks for the grin.

And the Jellicle Ninja is in my good thoughts, for sure.

Hello! Popping in out of nowhere to say that I'm in the middle of Somewhere Beneath Those Waves, and it is lovely. Usually I don't enjoy short fiction -- I find it either too gimmicky, or just too short -- but your stories feel wonderfully self-contained and complete, and you have a beautiful way with words. The end!
