Well, I got to that late, but it was still fun to read through. Ashni & I won't be at WisCon this year, so I will just have to attempt to express in text how unreasonably happy The Goblin Emperor made me. The shiny bits are extremely shiny (steampunk drawbridge!), and it is saying a great deal that they are far from my favorite parts of the story. Maia is wonderful, as is Csevet. All of these people who have the roles they must play, and do, but are still unmistakably their own people. (Maia's fiancee is a wonder - the bit where she offers to challenge his sister to a duel may be my favorite.) Fantasy of manners is one of the things that I'm always looking for more of, and it scratches that itch nicely. (The other is, to attempt a phrase, fantasy of logistics? I want more seneschal and quartermaster and innkeeper main characters.)
