(And my library has it; I've got it on hold, am now first in the queue. They also have Jo Walton's The Just City, and Bear's Karen Memory. What with zero dollars for book acquisition, the library system is one of the many reasons I am so, so lucky to live here.)
Well deserved, utterly unweird (your book would have deserved its place on that list any year), and hugely consolatory, given the rest of the ballot. Congratulations!
When I saw the list I knew what my ballot for novel is going to look like -- So far I have read Skin Game once, Ancillary Sword twice and Goblin Emperor about 5 times. And seeing it mentioned has me in the mood to read it again.
I think I will order a hard-copy to celebrate its nominations -- most of my book buying is ebook format these days.
It's an excellent novel. Maia's just such a damn likeable protagonist! I recommended the book to my sister, who doesn't like novels which have a/elves, or b/kings. She loved it.
To add to the overall awesomeness, I've recently found your old series, the Labyrinth, on Amazon. They had Melusine' through Corambis. Awesome squared :D
Congratulations! So delighted to see this up for the Hugo--the world needs more hopeful fantasy about good people dealing with infrastructure problems.
w00t!
