Me: Personal hygiene.
Underfoot Cat: Wtf? Why don't you just use your tongue?
Me: Because reasons.
Underfoot Cat: ... You're not putting me on, are you?
Me: [getting out] No, really, this is how we--
Underfoot Cat: OH MY GOD YOU'RE MADE OF WET

I too am familiar with this conversation.

It's marginally better than the one where the cat thinks that if you are doing something it must be fun and keeps trying it and being deeply betrayed because it is NOT fun.

I had a cat who would bravely try to rescue me from drowning every time I got into the bathtub. If I locked her out, she'd sit on the landing and yodel for help. It got so I could only take baths when she was out.

Baths seem to worry cats more than showers, as a rule. I've never had one as persistent as yours, though. At some point they all made a kind of "Okay, kid, you're on your own" shrug and went about their business.

Our Underfoot Cat learned how to sit on the tub edge between the shower curtain and the curtain liner, a safe place from which to observe this weird housemonkey "showering" behavior.

And to bat at droplets on the curtain liner. Acceptable amusement.

After almost two years, Bruno no longer angsts at me the *entire* time I shower, but there are at least three good solid requests to know WTH is going on every single time. I'm not entirely sure if he's upset that I'm made of wet, or that I am covering myself in water, or what, but he's definitely concerned about something.

Finder cat (now departed) used to watch me shower. Once i patted the built-in shower bench to invite him in. He came in, sat down, and looked shocked, horrified, and betrayed that it was wet. "You said it safe! It not safe! It wet! You crazy! ... ... You okays? I wait for ye."

He would also follow me around when i vaccummed, to make sure the scary monster didn't eat me.
"What would you do if it did attack me?"
"... I woud tink of summin. Yah. Don worry."
