DL(2) Ch. 5: 492 words

Today's total: 1,377 words

Verdict: All right.

And you're stopping because ... ? Hands again. Also, today turned out to be rather unexpectedly arduous, and I am TIRED. I was going to do the last Have His Carcase post tonight and then discovered that I couldn't put evidence, analysis, and argument together in anything resembling a coherent shape. Tomorrow--for as Scarlett O'Hara tritely observes, it is another day.

Land, Katie Scarlett! It's the only thing that lasts.

Sorry. Didn't mean to offend anybody.

It felt trite at the time.

Not to beat a minor matter of word usage completely into the ground, because of course I would never do anything like that, but it might well be trite to you, because the book sold millions of copies and had a movie made out of it and is a classic icon and like that; but it wasn't trite when Scarlett said it, it was all sorts of mutually contradictory evolving things, but not trite. You just put the adverb in a confusing place.

I'll go away now.

Let me fill in the rest of the sentence:

as the bad-Vivian-Leigh-impression Scarlett O'Hara in my head observes tritely, "Tomorrah is anothah day."

As I said to [livejournal.com profile] porcinea, it felt trite at the time, but that was about me, not about Margaret Mitchell and Scarlett O'Hara. "Scarlett O'Hara" seems to have evolved into my personal shorthand for a number of things only tangentially related to the character, and I oughtn't to inflict that on the rest of the world.

And I probably oughtn't to try to be witty or allusive when I'm that tired. Dumb, Truepenny. Very dumb.

Oh, but you should! We (and here I speak grandly for all your readers) love listening to you being all witty and allusive. Even when you're tired. (Though I say that as shouldn't, being all new to your journal and everything.)

That, and I'll seize any opportunity to cry, "Land, Katie Scarlett!"

And I'm sorry --- I should have used more words in my first response. Not offended at all! Love talking about the characters & their motivations. Many people think Scarlett trite; you're not alone. I think she's simple. (As in KISS, my favorite principle.) Hm, I think I'm not using enough words again. (Me tired, too. Packing for WisCon. I can't think about that now; I'll have to think about it tomorrow....)

It's just so pretty, you see --- Tomorrow *is* another day.

(I do love mornings.)

I blush. Thank you for your kind words. :)

I think Scarlett is a combination of stupid and stubborn which makes her both admirable and appalling. Although, I must confess, I have never yet been able to get through the novel, so I'm working off of my memories of the movie.

And, please, cry "Land, Katie Scarlett!" to your heart's content.

Will you be coming to [livejournal.com profile] juliebata's LJ party (http://www.livejournal.com/users/juliebata/27298.html) at Wiscon? Or will the simple expedient of hanging around [livejournal.com profile] elisem's table be enough for mutual recognition and identification?

I'm sure we'll meet around [livejournal.com profile] elisem's table before [livejournal.com profile] juliebata's LJ party, but will rely on it as a last resort. I'll be wearing ... hm, looks like either red&black or navy. Either a red hat or a sqooshy black velvet hat. (In the day. I don't have a dress suitable for my evening hat, alas. [Hydrangea pouf on pale green brocade flat round with minute veiling edging.])

Am short, round, and squeaky. Badge sayeth Piglet.

Coolness. I am readily identifiable by being mistaken for Elise.

Yes, of course, that makes perfect sense.

And as to being that tired, of course that's when it happened, when one puts the contents of one's head woozily out into the light, sans footnote.
I do it all the time.
