Just don't have anything interesting occurring in my head.

Although, we did make the mistake, Saturday night, of eating dinner at a "traditional Irish pub." [livejournal.com profile] rysmiel, I thought of you explaining to [livejournal.com profile] zorinth just what Americans think they mean by that phrase, and even more so when I discovered one of the sides was "Irish-style cole slaw."

It was perfectly adequate cole slaw, in case anyone is wondering, but I detected nothing that made it distinctively Irish, or in fact anything other than utterly mediocre American.

We won't be eating there again.

Have you decided whether you'll be coming to Montreal for the Fringe Festival yet ? If so, there's a rather good pub that feels like a real Hyperborean pub by Villa-Maria to which you could be exposed.

Which would be lovely.

But sadly, I don't think I can afford the trip this year.

Drat.

The invitation will remain open for whenever you can afford it.

Thank you!

I want to come. Real life is just interfering.

Were you, by any chance, eating at a "traditional Irish pub" in conjunction with hearing some Celtic rock band play? Because a co-worker of mine was telling me recently that she and her husband were planning to travel to your town to see some band that's a favorite of theirs.

No. No live music. Just screaming babies.

Like I said, we won't be eating there again.

Should you ever want a fairly accurate Irish pub in America, I recommend St. Dymphna's on St. Marks Place, Manhattan. There is no corn beef, and nothing is green that nature did not make that way. Very good beer. The little cane-seated chairs are unncomfy for my large American backside after a while, but it's worth it for the lovely Irish breakfast, complete with beans, grilled tomato, black pudding, and that other kind of bacon that always makes me wonder if Ireland's pigs are some other species entirely.

I don't get it.

Was it supposed to be Irish because it had cabbage in it? People are weird, and that's not always in a good way.

I think it was supposed to be Irish because it was being served in a "traditional Irish pub."
