"The Ghoul Hunters" now has:
(a.) a finished draft: 5,500 words
(b.) a new title: "Blue Lace Agate"
(c.) and a tweaked opening line that's got better kick:*
They hadn't caught the shoggoth larva smugglers yet, but Jesperson had other things on his mind: "And, ah, how are you and Sharpton doing, Keller?"

It needs:
(a.) 500 fewer words, for preference
(b.) a consistent voice
(c.) a sequel

The sequel already has
(a.) a title:"A Night in Electric Squidland"
(b.) an opening line:
Some days Mick Sharpton was almost normal.

Yes, I'm having a good day. Let's all revel in it while it lasts.

*I think the idea of shoggoth larvae came from [livejournal.com profile] slithytove and his sourdough starter. slithytove, if you object to my use of your larvae ... oh god that came out SO WRONG ... *ahem* slithytove, if you would prefer me not to borrow the concept of shoggoth larvae from you, please just say so. I can make 'em oviparous or something.

I thought shoggoths reproduced by budding. Shows what I know.

I don't actually remember what--if anything--HPL says on the subject.

Nothing, as far as I know. I just look at my plush shoggoth and see something that just ought to reproduce by budding.

I look at my plush shoggoth and see something that oughtn't to reproduce AT ALL.
