I find it more than a little amusing they expected the otters to stay where they put them.

Silly humans.

My favorite line:

"We flew 'em out there," Sanders said, "although we didn't blindfold them."

My question is, were the shellfish populations sufficient in the past to support the otters? If the shellfish population, that if I'm understanding matters properly used to be sufficient to sustain many more otters than it is now, is now dropping, is it due to the otters or to overfarming by the humans...who are now trying to blame the otters?

I'm with the otters. I'm sure they were there before the fishermen.

Total cost: $6,000 to $12,000 per otter.

Why don't they just give this money to the fishermen and make everybody happy?

I would seriously distrust anyone who didn't like otters.

I like the Ambrose Bierce reference at the end of that article. (I believe in Ambrose Bierce. And otters.)
