One of my favorite essays by Robert Benchley is titled, I believe, "How I write". It is EXACTLY on that subject.

I am desperately trying to finish a story to submit to the Wiscon writers workshop, so of course, I am getting a great deal of housework done.

Looked it up (the joys of working in a library). The essay is titled, "How to get thing done", and it is collected in The Benchley Roundup, and Chips off the old Benchley. It proves that cat-vacuuming is not a new phenomena, just a new terminology.
