Real-world, it has no derivation. It's a word I made up for the ancesteor of the ancestor of this story when I was in high school, and I've just kept it all this time. If there was a logic to it, I've long since forgotten what it was.
In Meduse (the world of Mélusine etc.), it is, like mikkary a word of unknown etymology, but very very old.
