Hee! I came into to say that I had spent all evening thinking about it and that I disagreed with you. I like being dropped into a well-made world without much background being given. It shows confidence (in a well-made world, of course. Otherwise, it's just confusing).
But anyway: discussion aborted! Does this mean we don't have to fight now?
It wasn't the background that was bothering me -- the in-cluing was very well done -- but the scene-setting in the deep underground, where the characters react to what's happening without telling us what sorts of things are being done. But I failed to indicate how minor that was compared to my enjoyment of the story.
