In other news, I hate this book. Because it's that stage in the process. There is some comfort in having done this twice before, but the memory of past hate for Mélusine and The Virtu does not actually make the present hate for The Mirador any less soul-destroying.

Which is why I haven't been posting much recently. These days, as Peter Mulvey sings, it's all about the monkeys. In this particular case, the suck-monkeys. And that's neither edifying nor entertaining. For any of us.

I can only look at Cats in Sinks at work, because if I do it at home, the resident felines get ideas. They don't need more of these; the ones they have already cause enough trouble.

Is there a set of suck-monkeys for every writer, or do you all have a pool you draw from as needed?

Many of us have suck-monkeys that lurk about our workspace. Mine are a set of three (red, green, and blue) cocktail monkeys from an Asian-fusion restaurant that serves wasabi Bloody Marys. They sit on top of my monitor along with the Chinese dragon, the plush Cthulhu, the horse chestnut matociquala brought me from the cemetery where Kit Marlowe was buried, and the plastic dire wolf from the Page Museum (http://www.tarpits.org/).

It's true, it does. Happily I don't need the website; I have a cat in my own sink (it's how he likes to drink, direct from the tap that drips. What he will do if I ever get that washer fixed, I cannot imagine. Except of course I can: he will stand in the sink and yowl, until I attend to his needs).

(It's part of his riff on the difference between British movies and American movies--and I've completely forgotten which DVD it is. But it's the sequence that ends with the "You fuck my wife?" "I AM your wife!" conversation. The bit I'm quoting is back on the British side.)

I just now saw this post, and it makes me laugh EXTRA hard because renenet and B. and I just watched two Eddie Izzard shows last night. Though not Dress to Kill. Which now, predictably, I want to watch.
