This morning, my albino bristlenose plecostomus is, unambiguously, dead.

I don't know what killed it. It seemed fine yesterday, and the heater was doing its job today. But the pleco tucked itself down between the potted sagittaria and the aquarium wall and died.

I am, perhaps disproportionately, sad.

Oh, no! Plecos are cute so ugly they're kind of charming. I'm sorry.

Thanks.

I have to decide if I want to try again.

I've always been terribly sad when my fish died. Disproportionate or not.

Also, I've always had bad luck with albino plecos. Perhaps they're more sensitive than the non-albino sort? I'm not sure. :(

Aww, pleco. Rest in peace, fishie.

I would feel the same way.

I've always thought that they were adorable fishies. The public library I used to haunt as a kiddo and adolescent had big fish tanks in the lobby, and I always used to watch their plecos with great affection.

Will you look for another?

It seems likely, although I'm not sure yet.

The number of weird things that can happen to fish are legion. I had tanks most of my life and if it wasn't Ick, it was Cotton-mouth, a bad Ph mix, poorly treated water, insufficient slime coat, or something else. Sometimes they just died and I never could figure out why. It is sad though, because you feel like you did something wrong, or wasn't a good fish-momma. It's a mystery why they die and it's also a mystery how they survive in the wild when they are so sensitive to everything!

I feel you.

Sorry about your loss.

They do better with algae tabs, but are still not immortal.

Oh, that sucks. I'm so sorry. There are fish that don't have personalities and/or individual identities, and then there are fish that really, really do, and I've always taken it for granted that plecos would be in the second category. I never had a tropical tank that was large enough to have one, or I probably would have bought something tiny just for the fun of watching it grow into the world-eating fish that plecos become.

Gah. I had three large goldfish die within one year, and was pretty well devastated each time. Now I've got a 45 gallon tank with one fish in it, because...sometimes you don't want replacements. So I sympathize.
