STICKY POST: greetings and a listing of stories and essays available online

Greetings!

This is the blog of Sarah Monette/Katherine Addison, a professional writer of horror, fantasy, and science fiction. Sarah Monette is my real name; Katherine Addison is a pen name, intended to be transparent.

If you've found me here, odds are pretty good you're looking for something to read, so the following is--to the best of my knowledge--a complete list of everything I've written that's available online:

STORIES

ESSAYS
Links to all the pieces I wrote about The Goblin Emperor are here. (Includes my essay on albinism.)

Essays about Dorothy L. Sayers and Lord Peter Wimsey are under the dorothy l. sayers tag.

Essays about Due South (and, yes, I do still hope to finish the series) are under the due south tag.

I wouldn't call them essays or even real book reviews, but I do write posts about the books I read (mostly entirely non-fiction these days and mostly entirely what you might call "dark"). They're collected under the unread book challenge tag, and I keep a master list:

Caveat 1: Nonfiction only
Caveat 2: Books I did not actually finish are italicized.

LAST UPDATED: 2016 NOV 20

I have also succumbed to the current of popular culture and set up a Goodreads account, and I am posting reviews there as well. [GR] shows the link to the book's Goodreads page.

Hello c: Just wondering if you have any updates on the Goblin Emperor?

[identity profile] truepenny.livejournal.com 2013-06-30 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
HOPEFULLY it will be out in April 2014. Amazon has it available for pre-order. (http://www.amazon.com/The-Goblin-Emperor-Katherine-Addison/dp/076532699X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372623695&sr=8-1&keywords=%22The+Goblin+Emperor%22)

Maybe a link to stuff you have available to sell? If you are being all noble, you don't have to list it, but a handy link would be nice. Just to see if I missed anything.

No additions, just wanted to say it's nice to see you back online (even if it's only briefly); we missed you at 4th Street. I hope things are going well.

In the beforetimes, m'friend Jean printed out an essay for me about Dorothy L Sayers; which at some point since the longago, my mind has attached to your name. (I didn't actually discover you elsewise until years later, when our then-editor sent me an ARC of Mélusine.) If that attribution is correct, is the essay among those linked above? And if not, is it linkable? (And if I have misattributed, well, damn. I wonder who that was...?)

[identity profile] truepenny.livejournal.com 2013-06-30 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's me. All of my Sayers essays are under the dls tag (http://truepenny.livejournal.com/tag/dls).

Observation: If you want Cinderella to kiss the prince, you don't have to chose Perrault's variant. There are plenty of variants where she gets help with the household chores, too.

I'd love a link to your unread book collection posts, I have a friend whose fascinated with serial killers/true crime and your reviews are helpful for finding good books she hasn't read yet.

I've added the unread book challenge (http://truepenny.livejournal.com/tag/unread%20book%20challenge) tag. Thank you!

Also, the cat in your icon is extremely gorgeous.

Perhaps a little alarmed

Hi Sarah,

You don't know me, of course, but I'm a big, big fan. (I have read The Doctrine of Labyrinths at least twice.) Which brings me to this not too pleasant matter.

There is a gay supernatural romance (supernatural gay romance? supergay unnatural romance? Oh never mind) called Widdershins, by a Jordan L. Hawk, which was published December, 2012. (It seems to have sprouted a sequel since.) The protagonist-narrator? A repressed, stuttering, same-sex loving scholar from a wealthy family, who works at a museum in turn-of-the-20th-century Widdershins, Massachusetts, and who is also a cypher expert. He is (not too subtly) named Percival Endicott Whyborne.

This just rings too many bells. I don't know if it merits looking into it, or not, but I think there are too many similarities to be mere coincidence. My dear friend Kyle Murchison Booth deserves to be protected.

Thank you for letting me know.

None of what you describe is actually plagiarism, so there's really nothing to be done--but I'm certainly very interested to learn about it. And Mr. Booth and I appreciate your loyalty. :)

A request for fan translation

I'm your mere fan from Ukraine and I humbly asking you about the permission of non-commercial translation (I will have no money of this) in Russian or Ukrainan of one story about Kyle Murchison Booth. With all trademarks and you as author, of course.
Thanks in advance.

Just wanted to let you know that the kindle version of Melusine-- which I just finished reading, and which I enjoyed very much!-- unfortunately has a ton of typos. I'm guessing there were some issues with OCR?

For some reason, news of a giant clock being built in a mountain in West Texas reminded me of some books.... didn't know if you'd heard of this thing, but thought you might be interested.

Do you think you'll ever revisit the story of Felix and Mildmay?

I have to say those books were some of the finest I've ever read and were more than deserving of being bestsellers.

I've recently purchased The Goblin Emperor and it's next in my overly large to-be-read pile. I wish you great success in your future endeavors! I'm a fan of yours of life.

[identity profile] gehayi.livejournal.com 2016-01-12 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I recently finished reading The Goblin Emperor (the most perfect, jewel-like book I've ever read, every facet glittering and prismatic), and a and, on the advice of a friend, obtained Mélusine, The Virtu, The Mirador and Corambis. I am about halfway through Corambis now. I am hoping that you've written more books that I haven't found yet, that you're going to publish many, many more books, or both. Both would be ideal.

[identity profile] outreachmama.livejournal.com 2017-03-09 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
